One sportsbook, however, has decided to refund bets previously placed on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky to win the league's MVP award.

Via NBC 5 in Chicago, the PointsBet Sportsbook (which offers betting in New Jersey and Iowa) has offered to pay back the money. While turning the concept of wagering on its head, it works as a great P.R. tool, aimed at getting free advertising (like this post) and persuading bettors ideally to re-spend their money (and then some) on other bets.

But ultimately, Ryan Pace and Josh Lucas had fallen harder for Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, believing the North Carolina quarterback had greater pocket presence and accuracy.

Why hadn’t the Bears held a private workout with Watson or taken him to dinner as they had with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes?

Instead, they met with Watson during the assembly-line interview process at the combine and for a bit after his pro-day workout. That was it.

“Honestly,” Avery said, “I thought that either they had some kind of wild process where they were going to try to sneak under the radar and grab Deshaun because they had heard so many positive things about him. Or it was an organization with a bunch of dysfunction that wasn’t prepared to be successful or didn’t have the pieces in place to truly take the next steps.”

In the Bears’ ideal world, (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky would soon break out of the slump that has defined his third season and rod through the mental clog that has impeded his growth. All it may take, the organization believes, is one big play or one clutch drive or one exciting win to get things pointed back in a positive direction.

It really makes him sound a lot more like Emery trying to be the smartest guy in the room (or for a current similar example, Dave Gettleman) than I had realized.

When was the last time a Bears first round QB worked out? When was the last time the Bears drafted a serviceable starting QB? It was Kyle Orton in 2005 in the fourth round. We actually had better luck not drafting a QB in the first round, lol. My Bears executive spin dial says that we can draft QBs in rounds lower than the first and have just as much success or more.

Grossman was serviceable and went to a Super Bowl.

No. Orton should have been the QB in the superbowl.

Now I'm certain you're on something.

You know what Orton had that Rex did not have?
The ability to stand over 5 ft 8 inches and actually see the field.

Despite having a decent arm, Rex was not tall enough nor durable to be an NFL quarterback. Orton could take a hit and he protected the football. I also would have taken Orton over Rex.
