I don't get that. This is the year they definitely have payroll flexibility. Give him 15 and a mutual option for 10 with a $3M buyout.

He wouldn't do that because he's got 17.8 in his pocket right now. Why would he take 25 over 2 years?

I imagined they would be like 30 for 4 or some goofiness.

The Abreu qualifying offer is good as you have a veteran around with the young guys and then you aren't saddled with a bad contract on an aging player when Vaughn is ready to step up.

Besides, he's a fucking RBI machine and with Madrigal, Moncada, Timmy, etc. getting on in front of him, you want that reliable bat to bring them in.

Because if Vaughn is ready by next August, who is going to give Abreu $8M at that point to DH?

Jose Abreu, given his life experience, is not worried about a few million bucks here or there. He wants to stay with the Sox and be paid according to his performance. He's not going to take an extra year at $8MM because he's afraid of the downside. Only a chump bets against himself.

If he wins a World Series here he will never buy a drink in the city again.

There are 2 positions for the 2 of them to play. What does Vaughn have to do with Jose?

Eloy is a natural-born DH. And then there's Collins if his hitting works out.

I don't disagree with either statement. I think the Sox fucked up with Collins last year. He should of been behind the plate from the all star break, to see if #1 he can hit and #2 if he is a MLB catcher. As for Eloy, he said he doesn't wanna DH, I am not sure if they would mess anything up with him. So guys struggle to DH(hitting wise). I would want Jose around for 3ish years. We don't even know if Vaughn is going to be anything, but I get that Jose is going to start dropping off.

natural-born DH is a polite way of saying "can't play defense for shit"

Yes, I know what that means, and I am not arguing he is not a DH. After his injury, I would of DHed him the rest of the year.

$7.2, but who's counting.

What they had better not do is to low ball him. He is a special player for this team and they had better treat him as such. There are quite a few really good Hispanic players on this team and in baseball in general that look to Abreu as an important major league player.

Both Mendick and Mercedes will be very productive members of the 2020 Chicago White Sox team. Bank on it. 8) 8) 8)

This (https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/11/ ... offer.html) was a pretty interesting article to see what the Sox would give up if they signed a player who was tendered and rejected a qualifying offer. I was concerned that since they are not picking in the top 10 in 2020, they would lose their first round pick, but that's not the case.

The Chicago White Sox have purchased the contracts of the following seven players:

-Right-handed pitchers Zack Burdi, Dane Dunning, Matt Foster and Jimmy Lambert;
-Left-handed pitcher Bernardo Flores Jr.;
-Catcher Yermín Mercedes;
-Outfielder Blake Rutherford

Five of the seven players are ranked in the White Sox Top 30 prospects according to MLB.com: Dunning (No. 5), Rutherford (No. 9), Lambert (No. 18), Burdi (No. 23) and Flores Jr. (No. 28).

Following the moves, the White Sox 40-man roster increases to 40.

Quote:
CHICAGO -- Omar Vizquel will not be returning as a manager in the White Sox Minor League system for the 2020 season.

"We felt that it was best for both sides to make a change," White Sox director of player development Chris Getz told MLB.com Wednesday, calling the parting an amicable one.

"Listen, Omar, ultra-talented player, very good instructor, created a good environment for our players," Getz continued. "We just felt with where things are at, our player development system, that it was time to go separate ways. But not only for himself, but for the organization as well and we wish Omar well. He was a positive influence while he was here."

Vizquel, 52, managed Class A Winston-Salem during the 2018 season and moved up to manage Double-A Birmingham in '19 covering his White Sox tenure. He guided the Dash to an 84-54 record and a first-half division title in '18 while earning Carolina League Manager of the Year honors in his managerial debut.

The Barons finished with a 64-72 mark in '19. Vizquel worked with top prospects such as Luis Robert, Nick Madrigal, Luis Alexander Basabe, Gavin Sheets, Blake Rutherford, Jimmy Lambert, Zack Burdi and Bernardo Flores with Birmingham. Vizquel played for the White Sox from 2010-11 as part of his stellar 24-year-career currently placing him on the Baseball Writers’ Association of America Hall of Fame ballot.

Not surprising in the slightest. The man wants to be in a major league dugout. Manager or bench coach. Maybe the Indians can get him in the dugout.

So fucking stupid to not have Vizquel as a bench coach with the big club.

Let him learn a year and get used to the guy and then he takes over.

Of course the Sox fuck it up.

And Vizquel is the anointed one why? No one has explained to me why this guy is The One? I just assumed if he was all that, teams would be banging down his door.

Let's trade for Lindor and make him player/manager. Shit, if that's all it takes, do it.

Wouldn't be surprised if Mark Grudzielanek or Espada is the next manger.

They had some other young guy who was named manager of the year in one of the minor leagues. I think his name was Jirschle. You would think that is talent you would want to develop but I haven't seen him mentioned
