Rudolph was mic'd up for the game so the NFL will know if it's bullshit or not.

Not to mention there were MANY players and the ref all within earshot when this went down

We need to care more about people than we do Mason Rudolph.

They should have already listened to the tape during their investigation then.

I'm guessing they did.

If it is proven he is lying about the racial slur his suspension will last into 2020. If he just took it on the chin, Goodall would have reinstated him this off season. This guy is making bad life choices, not Favre-Fan level bad, but close.

There’ll be no further repercussions for him and he’s going to claim he heard it even if the recordings completely exonerate Rudolph.

shefty failed to mention Al Riveron was the one reviewing the tape and he was using the PI review guidelines to determine whether a slur was used or not...

Which conspiracy theory will be floated out ? The NFL is protecting Rudolph ? Parts of the audio are “ missing” ? Russian pass interference ?

This was a pretty dangerous thing to do to try and get his suspension lower. I wonder if Rudolph would have a legal case against him?

Not to mention a real testament to having very low character to reach for that in today’s climate if it’s completely made up.

I think that Rudolph would absolutely have a legal case against Garrett, especially if he had sustained a bad injury as a result of it. I don't remember the players involved but there was a hockey player who I believe was arrested after the game because of his action taken toward another player. I think that law enforcement itself went after the player,

Bertuzzi caught an assault charge for sucker-punching an unwilling to fight Steve Moore from behind during a game. The attack injured Moore so severely it ended his career. McSorley ended his own career clubbing another player uninterested in kicking McSorley's ass again in the head.

I meant about the accusation about Rudolph being a racist or at least acting like one.

As a person who just saw the person I loved the most get killed in front of my very eyes suddenly and tragically by a remorseless and conscienceless person, I think the NFL is reacting to the worst of all possible narratives: seeing someone get killed in front of their very eyes. They can’t have mothers and children see something like this happen from a move that is way outside the rules and kind of looks criminal to the casual observer. The last I heard, more women watch football than men, but I don’t keep up on stuff like this. Many children watch football too. It’s family entertainment, so they need to be really careful when something like this happens. The NFL must have gotten tons of deafening complaints from fans.

Having said that, I think Garrett knew that he was hitting Rudolph with the soft part of the helmet. While DeCastro was holding him, he saw Rudolph rushing him. It was two against one, and in the continued heat of the moment, he was going to defend himself from the aggressive Rudolph. He never went after DeCastro. He only kept after the aggressive Rudolph. He couldn’t hit Rudolph with his fist, because of DeCastro, but he could reach Rudolph with the soft part of the helmet. So, he swung hard at the onrushing Rudolph to get him to back the f off. It worked. I think his camp and the NFL need to make as accurate and defensible a case as they can, somewhere along these lines. I think they need to get the criminal assault and killing narratives off the table. They are scary and disturbing. I even heard Garrett get called a psychopath in national media, meaning a killer type of guy. No one wants to see anyone get killed on a football field, especially by a move that is way outside the rules. After Garrett’s camp and the NFL get the worst narratives off the table, then everyone can just talk about stuff that is much more understandable.

Oh, I should have said this earlier. I’m not saying that Garrett swinging a helmet at Rudolph wasn’t completely unacceptable. It was. If I were Garrett’s coach, I would be on him so hard to never ever do something like that again if he wanted to continue playing for me. Oh, if I were Rudolph’s coach, I would also be on his case hard. If he didn’t lose his composure and keep losing it and keep losing it, none of this would have happened. Rudolph got the Steelers fined $250k (same as the Browns, interestingly) and Pouncey suspended for two games without pay. He should pay Pouncey back.

I think it would be an impossible case for Rudolph, partially because he doesn't have immediate financial damages to claim. So far, it looks like the NFL didn't go for Garrett's statement about racism. Also, in the eyes of the law, words aren't assault and don't justify real (physical) assault in retaliation, no matter what the far leftists want to believe. Rudolph going for Garrett's helmet was a penalty. Rudolph also rushed Garrett when DeCastro was holding Garrett and already neutralizing him. Rudolph isn't a sympathic plaintiff. Also, Rudolph cost the Steelers organization $250k. This doesn't help his case either. It's hard to win cases like these even when the plaintiff is completely innocent.

I'm glad it didn't work, because it reeked of attorney B. S. to me. I'm glad to see the racist card get worn out on a national level. The percentage of things that go wrong these days because of racism is small. I grew up at a time when you couldn't play the racist card, even if you had one. I have one, and I still can't see myself playing it ever. I have worse things to deal with. Play the cards you're dealt in your life. Don't try to play a card as if it's a big time get out of jail free card. There are no get out of jail free cards.

I think his camp is making it worse for him. Sleaze bags being sleaze bags. He needs better people in his camp.
