Chuck Garfien is a mouthpiece of the Sox. Don't believe a word that comes out of his mouth. I am sure JR offered 10yrs $120M.

That's how you know the Sox aren't serious about contending.

Love to know how the whitesox offer was structured. Fully guaranteed or incentive laden bullshit.

I can't blame Wheeler. I wouldn't come to the Sox either.

It's so great that they are saying the same exact thing they did last year and are expecting fans to buy it.

"we offered more money...if you consider all the money tied into completely unattainable incentives."

I'm really not angry because I refused to be played for a fool for a second year in a row. This is just what it is to be a Sox fan under JR ownership.

They asked for extraordinary patience from fans. Attendance and TV viewership were even up last year. In return for all of that money they have banked with all the low payroll since getting rid of the stars, they fall short again.

If I had been more invested in this free agency I would be yelling a pernicious myth

I know you listen to them as well Frank so maybe you heard it but what Silvy just said in the crosstalk made total sense. If you sign wheeler you really feel great about that? In a playoff game are you really confident that omg we have Zach going for us today ? He’s little more than “ just a guy “ , not a difference maker . I wouldn’t stress about seeing him sign elsewhere .

If he is not even willing to pay the price for good but not great players, why is Reinsdorf even in the baseball ownership business?

All is not lost until all is lost. IF, a big if, a $120 mildough contract is on the table, I'd rather have Bumgarner.

I am there with you. I went to less games this past season, because of what happened. I will go to less games this year. This is a dog and pony show. I didn't get a little excited with the Grandal deal, but as soon as that Wheeler interest was more than a week, I knew they were not serious.

He is a difference maker assuming he's healthy.

Silvy is a low IQ guy. He'd rather have Dylan Covey?

That being said I would rather have Bumgarner, though that his its risks too.

Well just keep him away from hillbilly pursuits like 4 wheelers, power tools and banging siblings and he should be ok .

The bigger issue is, they are unable to sign players. I doubt it is a straight $120M. I am sure it is like $96M with a bunch of unobtainable incentives they can control somehow from him achieving.

Is that because it happened with Machado who is looking like a pretty bad contract?

That's just apologist bullshit.

Every fucking year the Sox miss out on big FA's and every fucking time there's an excuse. Either the player is too good and lol of course the sox cant sign star players. And if it's a good but not great guy then it's "why would we overpay for a good but not great guy"?

Everybody needs to stop with the fucking excuses. He owns the Chicago White Sox, not some fucking Class A minor league outfit. The Sox need to acquire good players, not make excuses while everyone else acquires them. And fuck guys like Silvy for carrying water for this front office.

I'm not. I'll stress if the Sox sign nobody. I still think they shock the world and get Bumgarner or Cole.

Wheeler didn't need to be THE guy in this rotation, and if he was, things have gone horrible wrong. He would have been A guy here. A nice piece, but not the cornerstone of the rotation. Kopech and Giolito are the guys you need to be #1 and #1A..

Wheeler turned down Minnesota's supposedly better offer too.

Here's a positive spin. If the redass MadBum is truly a redass, he doesn't give a fuck where his redass pitches as long as he gets paid. So pay the man

See, but he is missing the really big picture. We are not even going after the whale in FA, even with a low estimated payroll for last year and low payrolls the last 5 or so years. We set our expectations at a very reasonable level and JR could not even meet that.

and you watch, now they will spend the same $24 million they would have spent on Wheeler on horrible, one year deal players. Check that, they wouldn't even pony up for Hamels.

They are not really in the market for these guys. It's like the guy at an auction who throws down the opening bid and never raises his paddle again once it is bid up. He can say he is in the auction but he really is not.

It was both he and Harper. They hosted Harper, and we never heard anything outside of Hahn bragging that the Sox could land both MM and Harper in the same offseason. The MM contract would not of been bad for the Sox. He would of be a YUGE upgrade over Yolmer. Probably would of paid for his contract with merch sold within the first few days of him signing.

I believe this as much as I believe the White Sox offered equal or more guaranteed money. Did. Not. Happen.

Regardless....the market has a baseline now. Go fucking sign MadBum NOW.

Half his starts are going to be in the bandbox that is the Cell while facing a DH . I’d be very leery about how impactful he would be .

Yes, they will make a couple trades like they did last offseason and spend like $30M.

From what I could tell the White Sox simply didn't want Harper.
