Very reasonable deal there...MadBum hasn't been that good the last 3 years, but that would have been a solid signing for the Sox

Exactly.

17 million a year for him to be a good 2nd/3rd starter on a playoff team.
Wow. This is disheartening

For those numbers I want him on the Cubs.

I wouldn’t take Keuchel or Ryu. Without that big ballpark or Dodgers offense , Ryu going to suck and
Keuchel isn’t very good to begin with . That being said I don’t know what the White Sox are waiting for or who they think they’re going to sign . No way they contend for a wild car spot with that dogshit staff.

They'll hope to catch lightning in a bottle with a signing of someone like Homer Bailey or Wade Miley.

In a division that is ripe for the picking, management doesn't think this is the year to compete.

Yeah that 2.72 road ERA for Ryu last year was just awful. Think before you post.

It's really hard to think a team that won 101 games, scored 900+ runs, has the best farm system in the division, is somehow ripe for the picking. There's A LOT of work and A LOT of growing to be done. I wanted Bumgarner as much as the next guy, but he doesn't win the division next year. He's a PIECE for 2021 when hopefully guys like Cease, Lopez, Kopech, Eloy, Madrigal, Robert have shown growth.

It ain't plug and play. It's MLB. I'd be happier than a pig in shit with a 10-12 game improvement over the pitily 72 we won last year.

Not even saying they'd pass Minnesota. But they're the only ones trying in the division. The Sox should be the 2nd team in the division and challenging for the WC.

But they won't because it isn't time to try yet.

Maybe in 2 years.

Last year was stark contrast between home and road.

Maybe it was a fluke.

This will be the 3rd year of the rebuild. This will be the year on whether it has legs. And there's still this offseason, next offseason, and 2 trade deadlines. Let's not get our panties in a bunch because of one fucking guy. But overall in this particular offseson, it's a D grade. They filled no holes unless you consider a platoon player in RF filling a hole

The Sox traded a 23 year old A player for a 24 year old MLB player who was talented enough to be in the majors for 4 years. It's only going to cost them $5M. Castellanos had a monster 2nd half but he's just been a guy most of his career and he definitely isn't $20M better than Mazara. Neither is Ozuna or Puig.

Talk to Boston about Price and Betts.

There were only three starting pitchers in which I was interested this off season: Cole, Strasburg, and Bumgarner. I never really expected them to get Cole or Strasburg, so in all honesty I can't say that I was frustrated in their inability to sign either one of them, but their disinterest in Bumgarner is frustrating. I think there was about an equal chance of success or failure with him, but for $85 million, he was worth the risk.

He was on pace for like 17 home runs in 55 RBI in 600+ AB before joining the Cubs. He didn't hit 20 home runs until his 5th season, he's been a liability on defense and nearly half of his career WAR came from last season. For his career his UZR and DRS are some of the worst in baseball regardless of what position he plays.

The Sox have enough DH's and Jimenez may end up being another. You can't have both corner outfielders being below average defenders. You also can't have a RF who wasn't going to hit 20 home runs even with a juiced ball before joining the Cubs.

All pitcher's numbers look better at Dodgers Stadium. Why is this so hard to process?

Sox are not in the NL and do not play on the west coast. That's where Mad Bum wanted to be.

Bingo. Robert would have died in the outfield trying to cover for those two.

This isn't a video game where players are AI and will take the highest offer. Players today factor in family input, location, and taxes. There are still trades to be made and free agents out there.

If the Sox are the problem, why didn't the Cardinals, Angels, or Twins get him? They have money and better rosters than the Sox; Angels are even on the West Coast.

Grandal would not have taken the Sox offer had he known 2019 was going to be a return to normalcy of the MLB free agent marketplace.

Why? Bumgarner is a Kenny signing a decade ago. He's done. Signing him is just an attempt to look active. They signed one of the best catchers in baseball to a long term deal that appears to be a bargain. They upgraded RF and the kids are a year older.

Sure they could use another starter. Unfortunately they struck out on the guy they targeted. You could argue that they should have known where his wife wanted to live.

There isn't a guy who has been signed outside of Wheeler that was worth the investment.
