I’m perfectly content with Pagano. The D is still 3rd in the NFL in PPG. Despite all the injuries they’re giving up a measly .5 PPG more than last year. That’s with last year the Bears being 3rd in ToP and this year 16th. Sure, lack of turnovers forced by the D is a factor, but by the same token, when the D scores they go right back on the field.

While I’m right there with you on the coaching/playcalling thing (and I’ve been mentioning it all year too).. Mitch and the O-line are also a big part of the issue as well. He’s a #2 overall pick that they traded up to get finishing his 3rd year in the league as a starter, he has to be better than he has been. He deserves blame for sure. He hasn’t been good enough.

I think he deserves blame but there isn't much around him and I think he's made a lot of improvements recently reading defenses and taking control of the offense. This offense needs a TE and the best production they've gotten were from a practice squad player and a guy who was on the street. Our tackles were below average. Whitehair was the only good offensive lineman all year. Our running game was somehow worse than last year. Nagy's stubbornness and ineptness with the play calling was by far the biggest problem. Allen Robinson was the lone bright spot. The past few weeks Anthony Miller showed that he can be a really good #2 if he gets his head together

Nas - your defenses of Mitch invariably include time caveats. He’s been good at this recently or he was strong in the second half of last year or that last minute drive. How about him being good consistently for more than a few quarters?

To be fair Zippy the list of consistently good QBs is pretty damn small and I don’t think even includes Aaron Rodgers this year.

I don’t get writing off Mitch as a bust currently. I doubt he’ll ever be great but he seems like he could be good.

MY problem with Pagano is the defense's performance at the beginning of the game and the first possession of the 2nd half. I seems to me that they play pretty passive when those things start. Do they wait and play too loose?

This is an odd statement. What’s exciting about all those 3 and outs? People aren’t pissed about boring or exciting, people are pissed about offenses not producing results. Are you arguing that Nagy’s offense produces results?

I think some of the higher ranking stats is the talent more than the coaching. The Bears D had a lot of moments of confusion in game, poor tackling, and bad penalties at critical moments of games this year.

Also, just about every single player on an individual level took a step backwards development wise, including Mack.

Mitch ain't a starter, good backup.

Rodgers is having a good year, the play calling is atrocious. He should be throwing the ball 12-15 times more a game. He doesn't throw picks, turnovers lose games.

He's done well, he drops Mack into coverage far too often though.

You have to consider where he was drafted and what was given up to get him. He's a bust.

He may very well end up being a serviceable NFL QB, but a 2nd overall draft pick....no. Bust.

I also go back to the defense. They were good this year, but they underachieved....Akeem Hicks or not, they underachieved. I can only tie this to them seeing the offense and Nagy and early on concluding this season was going nowhere. There is zero chance that defense could feel any confidence with as bad as the offense and head coach were.

Mitch won't be a starter, he's a back up.

He's at minimum going to be a starter through the end of next season barring injury.

Bit presumptuous, let's see who we draft this spring. I don't want any vets like Dolton or Newton, Marriota, Winston. I want a QB in the 2nd round and an UDFA and an open competition in camp. I think Hurts could beat out Mitch.

Presumptuous, but I can't see anyone available beating Mitch out....FA, trade, or draft.
If they draft one, you're assuming the Bears have staff and infrastructure in place to develop a QB....they do not.

Anyone expecting the Bears to draft a QB with one of the 2nd round picks is going to be disappointed.

Mitch will be the QB next year. They will probably bring in a vet to be a backup. But there will be no real competition for him.

This guy gets it. They have shitty draft picks and not enough of them to make any kind of a trade. If Jacksonville wants to dump Foles salary, that's the only real possibility. I don't see that happening. The other QB's thrown out that are already in the league will not be any kind of an upgrade.

I think Foles would definitely be available but he’s worse than Mitch

Exactly. Bears have too many holes to fill. I'm fine with them using a later pick on a QB or signing an undrafted one.

They can't pay $6million or whatever it is for a backup QB next season. Unless Chase wants to stick around for $900K, shake his hand and wish him luck.

File is making too much money, he's better than Mitch but at 20 million I'd pass. We need two young guys to compete with Mitch. Jalen Hurts can be had in the 2nd.

He's not even better than 6th round rookie Gardner Minshew

It won’t happen.. but if Joe Burrows slips to the 2nd round and the Bears have a chance to pick him, I have to believe they’d consider it.

I 2nd this. We’ve seen absolutely nothing from them that indicates they can develop a guy.. I’d still take Burrows in the 2nd tho if he’s there lol

ToP is a misleading stat for this defense tho -they caused a lot more turnovers last year which helped get them off the field and lower the time they spent on it. I believe they caused more 3 and outs last year too.

Some of their time on the field is their fault.

 @ Burrow in the 2nd round.

If Chase Young falls to the Packers at the end of the 1st round I sure hope they draft him!

Floyd is a bust, he'll never be in a better situation than he has been in.. and he sucks. We couldn't trade him for a 4th rounder.. he's a bust. And he will not be a starter for a decade in this league.. he should be starting now. He'll hang around a roster for a couple more years as a backup.

He's going #1.. no questions. I'd say Young is going 2.

There's a decent chance Jalen Hurts is there for us in the second.

Was Tony Mandarich a bust? 2nd overall pick with 7 years in the league.

He probably is and he has a chance to be great in the right situation, but there's no way they draft a QB that high while Mitch is still on the team.
