It’s taken many years but I’m starting to hate being a fan of this team. I’ve come to realize almost all of my fandom is wrapped up in watching the 85 Bears my very 1st year as a fan and the rest of the 80s when the Bears were really good.. but after that it’s been nothing but hoping they’ll be good, and then the season starts. Its a blind loyalty that’s really empty and based on nothing at this point. Nearly 30 years of bad decisions and complete and utter incompetence by this organization to field a respectable product outside of only a handful of playoff appearances and 1 more SB that itself was filled with bad decisions and utter incompetence.

This sucks.

Is this what it was like to be a Cub fan for all those years..? Not a baseball guy so I wouldn’t know..

Not Cub fan like because, like you, I was around for 85.

Agree with your post. Playoff appearances for this team are not the norm for this team. It's too bad the loyal fan base of this team are saddled with an ownership who have no idea how to win a title.

Pretty much rinse and repeat with this team.

Look at it this way. At least you aren't a fan of the Lions or Browns.

Yup. I'm willing to give Nagy/Pace one more year but if they can't put together win 10+ games and win at least one playoff game next season I'm probably done.

Even though the Sox have sucked for the last decade, they still win games. There are players who have good seasons you can root for. Pitchers have great stuff from time to time and shut teams down. You see some fire from Ricky benching guys or getting the heave ho. Even 99 loss teams have winning streaks.

There were like 3 games that were really fun from start to finish this season for the Bears. This was brutal.

Yep.

One of my sales guys has season tickets for both  Grew up in Cleveland and lives in Detroit. The problem is that he's also an insufferable Ohio State fan.

That's my assumption. I could have had freebies for next Sunday's Lions/Packers game...but I wasn't schlepping my happy ass to Detroit for that.

It's the NFL. if you don't have a sure first Hall of Fame qb you shouldn't expect consecutive playoff appearances.

The Bears issue seems to be they take 5 years to make the playoffs.

Buffalo has made the playoffs two of the last three years. Matthew Stafford has played in three playoff games. How many years in a row did Joe Flacco make the playoffs with the Ravens? How many years in a row did Cam Newton make the playoffs with the Panthers? Is Andy Dalton a HOF QB? A little further back, but Mark Sanchez played in back to back AFC Title games.

I get your point, but its not unprecedented to make the playoffs in back to back years or two out of three years with a non-HOF quarterback.

I have given up on the Bulls until they fire Garpax. Bears are not even close to that level of failure.

However, I have given up on the QB. If they sign A.Dalton or someone who doesn't look lost under center, then I would watch.

Mitch can not win you a game and I am done watching QB's that can't carry the team when they need it.

Disappointing season aside, the Bears appear to be in decent shape. Legit questions about Nagy but he did win 12 or 11 games last year, whatever it was, and make the playoffs. He had enough defense to make the playoffs again but his own specialty - offense - ruined any chance this year. So there's that. There's also this gaping hole at QB that is holding the entire team back. The Bears success in the immediate future will depend on whether or not they want to capitalize on the talent they have on defense. If you want to capitalize then you can't hold them hostage to the "development" of this dumbass QB. You do that and then they'll age out or leave because the (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky project is a failed project that will never return a sufficient return. And a good defensive era will be wasted.

Yeah. It does suck. I hardly watched the Bears yesterday because it hurts to watch such bad talent on offense. Collingsworth touched on this last night when the announcing crew discussed the respective talent of the two teams. Telling in that was when they discussed that the only Bears player who could start for the CHiefs would be Robinson and he'd be the 3rd or 4th guy receiver. I think that all of the criticism leveled at Mitch has to be re-examined with this in mind.

Anyone who has watched this team this year has got to barf at how shitty the offensive line is. It is the worst I have ever seen. No tight ends either to help. Pace needs to go. He is responsible for this offensive nightmare. If the new GM wants to fire everyone on the coaching staff, so be it. But this shit is sickening. I agree.

I totally disagree about (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky. That offensive line is the worst I have ever seen. Whoever is across from our OTs has a field day. How many times did receivers drop catchable balls? How about what cast of characters that the Bears call "tight ends"? I'd say peanut vendors in the stands could probably do better. How about our running backs? Have they ever seen a hole this entire season? I am saying this stuff because Mitch has virtually NO CHANCE against a good defense. Houdini couldn't escape the ineptitude of the lack of talent on the offense of this team. Pace needs to be fired. He is a bum.

Nagy is awful. The offensive line is awful. Mitch is average at best.

It's insanity to think they're in decent shape.

I wouldn't say exceptional. They were good considering they had a lot of injuries.

They did not create enough turnovers and they had a lot of trouble getting off the field on 3rd down in key moments.

No, what's insane is your hyperbole. This is a team that gives up 18.6 points per game, good for 6th in the entire league and second in the division as well as second in the NFC. Think about that - you are saying the team that gives up the second least points in the NFC is terrible. And they still managed to put up these numbers despite being forced to rely on an offense that leads the league in three and outs. And they had injuries. They are in good shape if the D sticks together and stays healthy.

I’m too lazy to look this up but.. since 2000 who has been to the playoffs more between the two (Bears, Bulls)? I feel like the Bulls have had more success these last 20 years than the Bears

Yeah the Bulls are tough too.. but at least we (well a lot of us) got to watch the dominance of the 90’s lead by the greatest player to ever live. It doesn’t excuse their terribleness these past years, but still..

Bulls 11 playoff appearances since 2000, Bears have 5, but it's a hell of a lot easier to make the playoffs in the NBA's Eastern Conference than it is the NFL over that time span.

The Bears have won four division titles and played in a Super Bowl over that twenty year period.

The Bulls have a victory in one game of an Eastern Conference Finals series.

Neither are templates for successful organizations, but the Bears have had more success than the Bulls by a mile.

I wouldn't go that far. The Bulls also had the best record in the league two years in that span, the Bears never did. The two teams resumes are pretty similar in quality since 2000 imo.

ok...good luck with that.
The good news is, we're going to see this unfold next year. Pace has 2 years left on his deal. Even IF the Bears fired Pace (which they won't) they're still stuck with the roster and head coach they have. Nagy has 3 years left on his contract so he's even less likely to get fired.

The Bears will bring in *someone* to compete with Mitch....they have very little trade capital to do so and even less in draft picks to trade. It would take money. They have cap space, but big money in a new QB signals the GM failed with Mitch....won't happen.
