McCann would keep Grandal fresh. And he's a good catcher.

Encarnacion is one of those old Kenny-type deals.

We're not going to win the AL this year so what's the point? Fucking guy is juiced up. Let's hope he doesn't get caught

With twenty-six man rosters it wont be too much of a burden keeping all three of the catchers, even with Encarnacion. It does put a lot of pressure on them to find an absolute stud of a fourth outfielder for defensive substitutions. Also a huge bet on Eloy making big strides in right field and staying healthy. Not going to be a lot of designated hitter at bats to go around with all these guys who cannot play positions.

The good thing is this signing should end the talk about Castellanos.

I could see McCann being Giolito's regular catcher...which means he's the opening day catcher with Grandal as the DH.

Which is kind of a shame because he's a fantastic fit on the diamond but not someone the Sox want to commit to for four years.

At his best (a few months last year) he's a DH. He's one of the worst defenders in baseball in the outfield and at 3rd base. Your center fielder would need to have a jetpack with him and Eloy playing the corners.

He wouldn't play the field except for vs. LHP, and even then he'd be subbed defensively once the starter was out. Rest of the time he'd DH. He's worth the shitty defense, I just dont want to be saddled to him.

Moncada was as near a sure thing as it gets. He is in a totally different class as a player.

I think you meant to say Eloy in left field, right? They don't need to go out of their system to find a few utility guys. They've got plenty of guys who can play good defense.

I am simply saying, it is a small sample size.

That's true. Collins, however, really didn't have a very great minor league performance so his upside is pretty suspect as far as I'm concerned. He's going to have to really battle it out to make the team. And that is the way that 95% of all players have to do it in order to make a good team. They need to prove themselves when they get a chance to play. He can make it, I think, but it is up to him. I'd say it is maybe 50-50 that he sticks with the team when spring training ends.

Abreu, Eloy and Yasmani are not going anywhere. They have 4DH's in their lineup.

Sox need someone who can play defense. They have a lineup loaded with bangers, but no speed or D. Great softball team.

They desperately need a pair of guys like Terrance Gore and Jarrod Dyson were to the 2014/15 Royals teams. Engel is definitely one, but now they need another. Preferably one who bats left-handed.

But this is where my pessimism starts to come into play, I dont think Ricky Renteria has any idea what works. He sucks. Ned Yost was a mortal enemy of the nerds but his aggressive nature gave his team the initiative in a way that really had a way of succeeding in the playoffs. In his hands Dyson and Gore were weapons who had impact far outreaching their capability...I'm afraid that in the hands of a sap like Renteria a guy like Engel will continue to underperform and be mismanaged.

Cubs will sign him after they deal whichever of KB, Contreras or Schwarber.

Seriously Sox fans. Is it a good idea to sink almost 30 million a year for Abreu and Encarnacion.

It’s a 1 year deal in a league without a salary cap for a team who hasn’t spent money in 5 years. Impossible to criticize, even for me

Good move. Yes the defense looks really sketchy but they'll bash. Kind of like the South Side hit men...

One year with a club option that has 0% of being picked up. Minimal commitment, if he sucks they'll Yonder Alonso him.

Meanwhile the lineup is absolutely loaded with guys who can hit the baseball.

White Sox may hold Luis Robert and Nick Madrigal down for service-time reasons, but when they are at full strength, this has the makings of an awfully good (and interchangeable) lineup:

Robert 8
Anderson 6
Abreu 3
Moncada 5
Encarnacion DH
Grandal 2
Jimenez 7
Mazara 9
Madrigal 4

There is very little chance Robert doesn't break camp with the big league squad. It seems as if Robert's camp is at least open to signing a contract that takes him through arbitration (plus a year or maybe two), and as long as that willingness is there the Sox will absolutely indulge it. Its the one thing they do well under the Hahn regime.

Madrigal and Kopech on the opening day roster? Maybe not. And that could be deserved, particularly in the case of Kopech. Though right now I’d lean towards saying Madrigal is not the kind of talent that really warrants service time chicanery.

I see about 1200 strikeouts right there.
