List your top 5 or whatever.

1. Tool - Fear Inoculum
2. Pixies - Beneath the Eyrie
3. The Who - Who

Those are really the only albums that, to me, have been worth listening to multiple times this year. Maybe it's because I'm old. Maybe it's the way music is evolving that does nothing for me, but I find myself going back to listening to what I know and like all the time. Honestly, one of my favorite things musically this year have been the EP releases from the Foo Fighters that are just pulling old live performances, etc.

Anyway...what say you?

I don't listen to nearly as much music as I should...

1. Tool - Fear Inoculum
2. Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind.
3. Korn - The Nothing

Bon Iver - i,i
Andrew Bird- My Finest Work Yet

I don’t listen to new music as much as I used to. The Head and The Heart dropped one but I didn’t really care for it all that much.

I'm having a hard time not giving it to Purple Mountains. Writing a song called "All My Happiness Is Gone" and then killing yourself is the authenticity we need.

Where do you hear all this stuff? Not WXRT or WDRV I'm guessing.

that's kind of what I was intimating. do you read about bands and then seek them out online? how, exactly, does one follow all these obscure bands?

Spotify. Indie music sites. Word of mouth.

Yea it’s a combo of many things
I don’t really listen to Spotify much anymore although I did find a few bands through that. It was my primary work listening method , but at the job I’m at now I can’t listen to music, and I rarely use it at home or in the car
Some are just legacy things / bands I’m already into
Some via friends / recommendations
Some are bands I saw opening for other bands that I then started liking
Some are via reviews or news on Pitchfork/Brooklyn Vegan/etc
Some are record labels I like , like if a certain label (Stones Throw for instance) puts something out I’ll generally check it out or at least be more inclined to check it out

My Cousin (more like little brother) have a long standing tradition of exchanging vinyl gifts each Christmas. He's really the only person that turns my on to anything new. This year, he gave me Michael Kiwanuka.

He knows me......good record. I look forward to listening again. It's my 2019 album of the year, but my only album of the year

The only other new(er) stuff I hear is when I'm in the car with my older son. He plays what all the Typical suburban white teenagers like....rap  Out of all his crap...and most of it is crap....I can handle Change the Rapper and Logic. I guess that gives honorable mentions to The Big Day and Confessions of a Dangerous Mind....but I'd hardly call it an endorsement.

My younger son likes 80's music....THANK GOD.
