The people "arguing" that it's a problem are not Bears fans. They are probably jealous. Can't blame them.

 jealous? Za’Darius gets paid less, costs no draft picks, and was better this year

This is FF's purpose here. He wants to talk about how great Packers players are because Mack had a down year in sacks.

It’s a fair response to a post calling me jealous. This seems like an odd time to throw that out there.

You clearly have some reason to hate on Mack as much as you are. What is it?

Bears fans are very happy with him.

I will say it again, but his numbers are largely down this year due to Akiem Hicks being injured.

-First 5 games with Hicks playing, Mack had 4.5 sacks
-Last 10 games without Hicks playing, Mack had 4.0 sacks

Mack did not have an elite, DPOY type year.

Saying he had a bad year is simply not true.

I’m not hating on him. Just calling it how I see it. Last year I acknowledged he was great and in the DPOY conversation. He hasn’t been very good this year.

You brought up the Packers almost immediately in this thread.

I brought them up when accused of jealousy. If you don’t see how that makes sense within the context of the post I was replying to then I can’t help you. It’s pretty clear.

Your point on draft capital is wrong. It lost the Bears two total picks but improved a 3rd to a 2nd. Mack is young enough to be better than hypothetical rookie draft pick last year for the next 4 years.

So in terms of draft capital the big loss is one first round draft pick. I'll take it for a dominant player.

You're ignoring the astronomical contract given to Mack for average production.

Mack through two years has been worth the contract.

Hard to say. He played above his contract last year and below it this year.

No. This year he performed well enough to justify it.

No chance. The Packers alone have two guys named Smith who both outperformed him.

Page 1.

Oh. Right. Again, that was in response to you saying how great Mack was this year. It’s natural to actually compare him to players that play the same position as him and outplayed him this year. It doesn’t make a ton of sense to discuss a player in a vacuum.

He's right - you are jealous and intimidated. The lack of Bears' success this year allows you to mask your deep-rooted feelings of fear and jealousy with false bravado. But deep down everyone knows the Packers thoroughly mediocre defense would be immediately upgraded with the addition of someone like Mack. In fact it might be enough to vault you all into contender status. Right now that team is a pretender. Gonna enjoy that team get absolutely destroyed by the Saints and/or 49ers. Mack would have helped avert that disaster.

How is this an argument for Mack being elite? He needs Hicks to be great? He didn’t in Oakland.

The question is why are you so insistent in this case. Bears fans are very happy that Mack is on the team. The Packers may have 37 Smith's better than him but they aren't available.

I get why Furious cares so deeply but why do you about a great player on the Bears? Could it be that you were calling the trade bad from day one?

Alright, well maybe its just a huge coincidence in the Bears system, but he was dominant all year in 2018 with Hicks, and had 4.5 in the first 4 games with Hicks playing in 2019.... then when Hicks went down he only had 4 sacks in 10 games. Not saying its the only reason, but Hicks is a factor, it appears.

That's pretty damning evidence.

You really know how to illustrate a point, PP_C.

Not for nothing, but RAIDERS 4th round draft pick/rookie Maxx Crosby got stronger as the season went on, despite losses on the defensive side of the ball.

No. I don’t even think I said it was a bad trade, just that it was a very expensive one. I wanted the Packers to get Mack. I wanted them to pay a similar price. Last year it looked like a great trade. This year it doesn’t. We’ll see how it looks next year.

I’m glad Bears fans are happy Mack is on the team but I read both Packers game day threads this year and it sure didn’t sound like it in them.

He was absolutely elite last season and very good this year. Probably will be elite again next year. I just don’t think Portage’s point helps build a case for his greatness & somewhat argues against it.

You posted and agreed with an article that said Mack would have to be DPOY 4 times for it to have been a good trade for the Bears. You can't run from that now.

That’s not what the article said. If you’re gonna quote it at least be honest.

It said he had to play at a DPOY level. He did that last year. He didn’t come close to it this year.

I was not arguing for or against it. I was simply saying that based on stats alone, Mack thrives better in our system with Akiem Hicks active.
