This is just flat out wrong. It's dead wrong. TB was the fourth worst defense this year - the only teams worse than TB were Miami, Carolina, and NYG. They gave up 28 ppg. What are you talking about?

FF is funny.

But in his defense, didn't Winston throw like 10 pick 6's.

Jameis is almost entirely responsible for TB’s points allowed not being in the top half of the league.

But some folks don’t like context and just like easy to read numbers like ppg allowed.

Your statement is still way off.

They were 25th in total yards allowed.

A full 100 yds more per game than the Bears allowed.

It’s not wrong. This is where you should watch football games instead of judging defenses by points allowed. Scroll up and read Hussra’s post for added context.

It is amusing however that you want Jameis as the Bears QB but don’t even seem to understand the basics of what goes with having a QB who threw 30 interceptions in one season.

Defenses should only be judged by points allowed, that's all that matters. Idk what his sources are. TB gave up the third most passing yards, only AZ and Detroit gave up more. They were good against the run. 10 yards per pass is not good, and that's not on Winston. Pick sixes don't count against your D. At best, it's a giant leap of faith to say Winston's 30 INTs are the major driver behind TB giving up 28 ppg.

Notably, this supposedly good defense surrendered 31 and 40 points during games where Winston threw no picks at all. They also gave up ANOTHER 40 point game in which Winston only threw one pick as well as another 32 point game in a one pick game. This should be enough to refute the notion that TB and Chicago were somehow similarly good defensive teams.

Tampa's defense was average this year, which is better than their abysmal statistics would indicate.

The team that really had a great defense that had what could've been title hopes torpedoed by hopeless quarterback play was the Steelers. Put Mitch there and they'd have eleven wins.

Bears win ten games with Jameis at QB

This means TB gave up 47% of what the Bears allowed the ENTIRE season in FOUR games during which Winston threw TWO INTs.

Math:

31+40+40+32 = 143 (TB points allowed during the four games mentioned above)

298 = Bears points allowed this season

143/298 = 47%

As the backup I agree, but if he actually played no way. Mitch could use a little Jameis in his ear.

The real question is what does Mitch and Robinson/Miller/Cohen accomplish with Bruce Arians as opposed to Matt Nagy? Tampa's tight end situation this year was not a whole lot better than the Bears and Ronald Jones II this time last year looked way more hopeless than David Montgomery ever has.

The big difference is Tampa has a strong offensive line and maybe that's where this thought experiment falls apart.

Not surprising Antarcica is a fan of Bruce Aryans . He also wanted Frank Reich to coach the Bears as well.
