Thinking of seeing them at Lincoln Hall on the 12th if there are still tickets available. I'm dragging my feet because it's listed as both bands and I'm dreading the thought of it being mostly Cracker. They're both more or less band-as-solo-artist-pseudonym bands, why was one so great and the other so bad? It's like if the Twilight Singers were the absolute drizzling shits for some reason.

You can watch Lowery fiddle with his MacBook in both bands.

Eye of Fatima is my jam.

"All Her Favorite Fruit" is far and away the best Camper Van Beethoven song and if they didn't play it I would feel severely ripped off. I'm sure I've mentioned many times before that Key Lime Pie is one of my favorite albums of all time. If they were playing the album straight through, I'd go no questions asked.

"Eye of Fatima" is really good, as are most songs on OBRS, but there's a lot of filler there that I can do without. The whole end of "She Divines Water" is just useless noodling.

I really like Johnny Hickman's guitar stylings.

I think I heard Milne or someone else on XRT proclaim he thought "Teen Angst" was the greatest power pop song ever a few weeks ago, which is completely outlandish.

He wouldn't have picked something by Material Issue?!? For shame. "Teen Angst" isn't even in Lowery's top ten.

The greatest power-pop song ever is "Alex Chilton."

Yeah, I wouldn't call "Teen Angst" a power pop staple, it's too world weary. I'd go maybe "Good Girls Don't" or "Girlfriend."

"Teen Angst" isn't even in the same power-pop stratosphere as "Just What I Needed." This is making me inordinately mad. How I dislike Cracker.

"Girlfriend" might really be the best. It just soars.

Yeah, "Girlfriend" is really good. Up there for sure.

I remember one time many years ago Lin played "Divine Intervention" coming out of a Lin's Bin. That was really cool, I love that riff.

Maybe because it's a song of my youth and I know it's barely more than a Cars pastiche but I'm extremely partial to "Stacy's Mom."

I haven't been to Lincoln Hall, but that show is going to practically be a home game for Lowery, he'll go a little deep. Probably be a good crowd. You should go.

Those are two good ones. I wouldn't call "Alex Chilton" power pop either. It just rocks too hard.

If I were forced to pick the greatest power pop song I might go with something by Elvis Costello or maybe "Go All The Way", which might be the greatest rock song of any kind.

I prefer Camper too, but your dislike for Cracker seems almost irrational.

Oh, it's completely irrational. I can't even put a finger on why Cracker bothers me so much. Probably because they caught on and CVB didn't really.

Camper caught on, or at least seemed to, on college campuses.

Cracker was a bigger part of the zeitgeist. Right time, right place, right lyrics, right sound. I always liked them, though they seemed a bit interchangeable with every other band.

I always had a tendency to mix up Cracker with Candlebox.

They all sounded the same. Collective Soul tended to lean more towards the lighter side...similar to a Gin Blossoms or Toad the Wet Sprocket.

I did really dig Soul Asylum.

the first half of Cracker's S/T debut.....that's about as good as it gets, man.

Cracker sounds nothing like Collective Soul.

GIRLFRIEND is a near perfect album. It was also the soundtrack to a relationship I got caught up in at the time. From perfectly amazing to perfectly heart wrenching.

Still love FOW too.

I played the hell out of Girlfriend when it came out too.

This one is still a beautifully packaged, emotional kick to the gut.

Quote:
I thought I knew you
But I was in for a suprise
I let my love flow
From my heart into your eyes
And then I found out
That there was nothing I could know
Or guess about you
You'd go as far as you could go

And it took me years to figure out
That there was nothing
I could give to you
Years to figure out
That there was nothing
You would take from me
And how can I describe
The way you slowly put
My hope away
And all of the time
I thought I knew you

I thought I knew you
But I wasn't even close
I had my heart set
On little more than a ghost
And I thought I'd show you
There was no way we could lose
I thought I'd force you
To realize and choose

And it took me years to figure out
That there was nothing
I could show to you
Years to figure out
That you were never really
Going to choose
And how can I describe
The way I slowly lost
My love for you
And all of the time
I thought I knew you

And it took me years to figure out
That there was nothing
I could show to you
Years to figure out
That you were never
Really going to choose
And how can I describe
The way I slowly lost
My love for you
And all of the time
I thought I knew you
