Quote:
Shortly after Michigan concluded their season with a loss to Alabama, it was reported by Tom Pelissero that the Bears had hired their offensive line coach Juan Castillo to join the staff. This is something that was rumored almost immediately after Hiestand was fired. Castillo was an offensive line coach in the NFL from 1998 to 2017. He spent most of that time under Andy Reid with the Philadelphia Eagles. He and Nagy ended up working on the same staff for five years. So there is a definite familiarity.

Castillo produced fronts that delivered a top 10 rushing attack six times and also helped the Baltimore Ravens win the Super Bowl in 2012. His NFL track record is even more decorated than Hiestand’s and the Reid connection means he’ll have a far better understanding of what Nagy wants out of his blocking schemes. It’s as good of a hire as the Bears could’ve hoped for.

I don't think we have any reason to think he is a yes man. He seems to be an accomplished coach who knows what he is doing. But it does seem clear that there are not going to be an real philosophy changes. Nagy is going to live or die with his offense.

Bringing in another guy who Nagy used to coach with is a very strong indicator that he is hell-bent on running this same offense every week until the Bears finally relent and fire him.

On paper the hire makes a lot of sense.. but I have to wonder why he was out of the NFL to begin with if he was still producing results.

Forgot about him. He still on the staff?

Are there any ideas out there as to who the Bears have in mind for the OC spot? I can’t imagine a quality one taking the job if Nagy is going to actually be the one calling the plays and designing everything. A quality hire will want his own control of that kind of stuff imo

For any years. Going from coaching O-lines in the NFL to lines in college seems like a step down imo. Just wondering why he went that route.

Exactly. There's really no point in hiring one. Just add OC to Nagy's title.

He spent one year at Michigan after being in NFL for 24. Almost all that time with the Eagles. Michigan probably came about due to Harbaugh's brother with the Ravens.

Chiefs QB coach Mike Kafka rumored to be in consideration for OC.

If James Daniels was graded 73 then Kenny Clark must have a grade of 150 because those two looked like they didn’t play in the same league in the two matchups this year.

I don’t think I’d be able to handle the puns related to Nagy’s offense.

Its not a CFMB NFL thread unless FF is acting like Kenny Clark didn't spend almost the entire season getting blown three yards off the ball.

Only Aaron Donald had more QB pressures for IDL. Another argument you lost on.

I'm in favor of anything that keeps Childress from being promoted to OC. I cannot believe the Bears fans I've seen in favor that.

Kafka become QB coach this year and was an offensive quality control coach the year prior. Seems kinda fast to become an NFL OC. Under Reid machine what responsibility does this guy really possess?
