I think he did some things that kept him technically employed by them. Not sure why they would cut the promos with that if it wasn't true.
Didn't he work for Sporting News Radio for a while? That station was short-lived in Chicago but continued to broadcast in other markets IIRC. Coppock was their headliner at one point.

That's about when I started listening and why I never understood the Terry Boers love. I suppose in the 90's he was capable of forming a coherent thought. I also wonder if some of the love for the early Score was born from the paucity of other sources of sports information. Now, if you want sports talk/information you can go to a zillion places. Back then, it was your friends/family, the newspaper, the local nightly news, or the Score.

Nope.

The Score was able to make a connection with listeners. It was entertaining radio that veered far beyond sports talk and the information wasn't all that great. They had a fiercely loyal listenership.

The golden era of the station ended when with North deviously getting Monsters and Heavy Fuel Crew broke up. I don't think anyone who started listening after that time can understand just how good of a listen the station was back then

Being that I lived out of state from 96-2000 my listening was pretty intermittent as the only time I could hear was the couple of weeks a year I was in town. I remember being completely confused as to why they broke up hfc when I got back to the area. Just stupid. Was not a day one listener by any means but picked up on it more when I went to college and more so when I moved out of dorms. I’m a bit surprised that I didn’t listen in 92 but I think my pursuit at that time had little to do with sports.

Speigel and Larry WEREN'T major on air personalities slugging it out live on the air with fellow feuding hosts at the early score.

The feuding didn't come for a while. The "bunker on Belmont" seemed to give them more of a team mentality, especially when it wasn't guaranteed the station would make it.

Eh. Monsters and HFC would go at it pretty good sometimes.

Definitely. North was vehemently pro-Ditka and HFC (Terry Boers, Who ya crappin?) led the anti-Ditka contingent prior to becoming the initial conscripts in Wanny's Army.

Their battles were vicious.

Meat was HFC producer. He left for an on air hosting opportunity at Sporting New Radio. They started in Chicago and moved to the west coast. Meat was gone for probably a decade. SNR went under, Meat got divorced (for the first time) and was living like Kirk Van Houten. Mac plucked him from this downward spiral to co host and he has been back ever since.

I was shocked to hear he is married AGAIN. That has to be at least #3. Any of you who think you have to be good looking or wealthy or even interesting to get a woman, there is your response. Meat has not a thing in this world that a woman should find attractive other than being a semi front man for a popular local tribute band.

Hell, Les has found 3+ women to marry him and he doesn't even sing.

All you have to do is get out there and throw your net on the water. You think Les has game?

I'm not saying they didn't have spirited arguments on sports topics...I was referring to the eventual backstabbing between shows...North and HFC, and Terry vs Murph, etc.

Yeah he did. I remember calling in on some of his early morning Sunday shows back in the day to talk basketball.

Remember his trademark was ending his updates with "The SCORE!!!"

I also remember Greenberg doing weekends, before he hit the big time.

In the first hour or Les's show last night he was talking to his producer Jordan about his Bahamas trip. Les meant to say "I've got some color left", but said "I've got some cum left". He quickly changed to color.

There used to be some quality programming on the station on the weekends back then. I also remember Boers doing the occasional Saturday show in the early 90s.

Mike North saying with Mac and Parkins that there is a movie about the Score in the works called Raging Mouth?

Is this for real

Greenie was a Northwestern intern for HFC as I recall. Mac had him pegged as "too pretty for radio" early on.

The Score has adopted North’s vision. Am I remembering correctly that North’s morning show evolved into sports, politics and other general talk? Now look at Score (minus Mully + Co-Host) where the programming is using North’s template. It’s just the current hosts discussing these topics aren’t hot dog vendors.

The year that Bernstein and Doug did the Bears pregame show was also fantastic. I think they discussed Italian food almost as much as the Bears!

Another production masterpiece. Keeping Doug from punching Bernstein was never a small feat.

We did all the home games from the Field Museum.

Wonder if this is the 1st time North is on air with Parkins? Parkins back some hinted at North with 1st hand knowledge of North being a racist. Then was called out on it on Can't Do It by a caller for details. Parkins claimed North made racist comments at a gambling table both were at. Proclaiming the allegations on the scores airwaves. Parkins is lucky North didn't wipe the floor with him. Interesting how things got patched up if the stickman apologized, or Mac stepped in to b****h slap Parkins.
