On Friday, Feb 24, Murphapalooza will be doing his show live from some poor dope's office. I suggest people who dislike Murph do the following:

Spend this coming Friday, 2/24 calling in to Murph's show to criticize everything you dislike about him. I think legit criticisms are better than name calling, plus any criticism seems to piss him off.

I heard 2 callers this week rail on Murph without being belligerant and it sent him off. One guy complained about his Cub luv and someone else said he kisses player's butts.

Can you imagine a whole 2 hour show of everyone ripping Murf? I think we can/should do it. Imagine the fun....

Doing it while he's on a remote makes for double the fun, I'd like to see the asshole blow a gasket at a remote. Also, while on a remote, everyone present hears things in real time, so if someone called him an asshole over the phone, the listeners wouldn't hear it, but the people at the remote would!

Let's give this ass a rough ride, we all know he deserves it. Mark your calendars, 2/24, Mess with Murph Day!

Why am I proposing this? If you knew half of what I know about this guy and more importantly, how he's treated his producers, one day of calls like this isn't nearly enough.

I like your angle...I've never called in to a show before--never been in a locker room, either--but your "collective action" idea may inspire me to do so. The board should take similar action for other crappy shows, too.

Good suggestion!

I want some elaboration on the above (i.e. specific & personal anecdotes) before I engage.

Who gives a shit if Murph knows it is you? How much pull does HE have anyway?

Spit some dirt, Nigga!

After the show we can all go to the zoo and throw things at the animals as well. What a day of entertainment that will be!

I don't get your sarcasm--Murph is not a defenseless animal confined to a cage, though perhaps he should be.

Just make sure you give the call-screener some BS topic or he won't put you on/tell him you love sMurf.

Please avoid the slurs in the future, even casual usage of that word offends me.
In order to respect the people who still work for SCR, I can't go into much detail because I fear reprisals against them.
However, if you listened to today's show, it showed Murf at his worst when it comes to his producers. Murf threw Strezo under the bus twice today. Murf gave the wrong contact # for one of his guests. The producers give Murf all the pertinent info for any guests, including contact #s; appearance dates, times, locations, etc; any thing to plug the guest or help the interview. Murf never refers to this info until he gets the guest on the line, and usually looks the stuff over when the guest is talking, we all know Murf never really listens to callers or guests. Anyway, that was the case today, he looked at the info late into the call and got it wrong. Instead of taking the high road and either letting it go or admitting to HIS mistake, he bitched Cy out for it and at the end of thew show said "thanks to Cy Strezo for another mistake-free show." Prick.

this thread is sad. When people hate Murph this badly, they really need to do a reanalysis on priorities. Turn the dial if you don't listen, and if you don't, then why do you care? I'm a Sox fan and I like his show. I don't let other radio hosts in this town form my opinions on others for me

So in your world, only people who like Murphy should post here? Not a chance, he sucks and should be off the air.

Inundate the company that he is broadcasting from with complaint calls while he is on the air. More feasible to do, with longer lasting results.

While the "turn the dial" bullshit is obnoxious, I’m not in favor of trying to sabotage the guy either. I can’t stand Jesse Rogers, but I don’t call the Score to mess with him in the middle of his show. Ripping a guy is one thing, but this is a bit much…

While I see your point, I disagree. One of the major complaints on this board is that WSCR management and on-air talent are notoriously unresponsive to their core audience. The kind of mass action suggested above might finally get someone's attention over there. If not, it would at least be amusing.

I think Frederick Douglass' famous statement on social power applies here: "Those who profess to favor freedom and yet depreciate agitation, are people who want crops without ploughing the ground; they want rain without thunder and lightning; they want the ocean without the roar of its many waters. The struggle may be a moral one, or it may be a physical one, or it may be both. But it must be a struggle. Power concedes nothing without a demand; it never has and it never will."

Sportstalk listeners of Chicago, unite! You have nothing to lose but a bad talk show host.

Just kidding--kind of.

I echo Midget's thoughts. What has all of the "ripping" accomplished? Nada. This will let (s)murf know how many people think his show is AWFUL. Also, it may get Mitchy boy to realize how everyone hates the (s)murf, obviously awful ratings don't mean much to him. Possibly throwing a show off track will have more impact than horrid ratings. Count me in, I'll be calling the famous phone no. on Friday. Bitching and moaning about (s)murf hasn't had any effect, maybe this will.

Oh yeah, this'll work. "Mitch Rosen please." "Mitch is out to lunch."

20 min later
"May I speak to Mitch Rosen." "Mitch is in a meeting"

45 min later
"Is Mitch in?" "Mitch is on the other line, he'll be awhile."

30 min later
"Is Mitch available?" ""Sorry, Mitch is tied up. Would you like is voice mail?" "Yes, please."

"Hi Mitch, I'm a loyal listener and I have an opinion about the Mike Murphy sho..."

"voice message deleted"

Mitch thinks, "thanks for listening."

He wasn't talking about calling the Score, he was referring to calling the company where Murph does the remote.

As far as agitation goes, I understand, the squeaky wheel gets the grease. I certainly won't stand in your way; I just won't be participating myself. I tend to believe some of the things I've heard and read (re: Murph = tool of the century), but I'm not out to humiliate someone, that's all.

To borrow a line from The Princess Bride: Have fun stormin' the castle!

That is a F*#@ing GREAT quote. I am going to use that someday in a negotiation.

Thanks.

Here is the one problem with all the negative posts ever written about Murph on this board...he does not get awful ratings.

The few disgruntled producers who post their displeasure with their former boss do not seem to reflect the attitude of the general public.

Where did you get (s)murf's ratings from? What's your source? I'd like to see proof before I believe this tripe.

You're a (s)murf fan, so I'd expect this comment.

I like his work. However, I never listen to the show due to work.

I believe Feder reported it in his last column on the fall ratings.

I think the fact that you DON'T listen is the main reason you're still a fan Dolphin.

Guests should never doubt registered users. Now, keep this in mind, I think Murph blows dog, but read it as we all weep....

From Ted Cox, Daily Herald, 1/20/06,
"Mike & Mike didn’t get much help from Carmen DeFalco and Marc Silverman from 9 to noon, and middays from 10 to 3 is where the Score really mopped up, with a second-place 5.3 share to the 10th-place 3.5 posted on WMVP by Silvy & Carmen and Dan Patrick."

Full article:
http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/beatw ... &id=144893

Regardless of the ratings, Murph still sucks. Reality TV continues to get high ratings, but that doesn't mean it's any good.

In my younger days, I never ran from a good protest, so long as it was for a good purpose. Sometimes you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet, definitely not as eloquent as Mr. Douglass, but the point still stands...to get a good result we may have to engage in some ugly actions.

Loyal posters, we are less than 24 hours away from Mess With Murph day.

Be ready.

Remember to come up with a reason to get on the air, odds are once we get a few thru the call screeners will tighten up, so be creative.

Try not to get dumped or hung up on, no need for mouth breathers to call in. But, if someone calls him an asshole here and there, it might be worth getting dumped.

Remember why I proposed this...payback. Payback for us as listeners or ex-listeners for the crap coming out of the radio, and payback for current and former co-workers who've never been afforded the chance for revenge. Put this prick in his place, he deserves it.

CALL CALL CALL!!!

No, you are in the majority on the board, but not in the mix of everyone who listens. You are free to do what you want with complaints, but I have read here where people hope he dies or gets hit by a car. Now that is sad.

Plus this action is better suited for North, an illeterate high school drop out who loves to poke at insensitive situations and justifies his blatant racism because he knows Eric Beverly. Not only does his show suck, but he has(still is) ruined (ing) the station, and is payed 7 figures for his efforts.

Excellent post (sans the spelling errors). But, I will dispute you on some things. You did a PERFECT job of describing North, but this type of action would never work on North. His skin is SO THICK and he's so damn dumb, nothing can get to him. When he gets a caller ripping him, he counts his money, or nails the help (see Jen Jen). He gets a complaint and laughs it off. I used to call into JagBag and attack him on a personal level and I'd get the typical "thanks buddy, call again.....we go next to my guy Johnny Q...." I remember one call who said Pappy was jealous of Urlacher because #54 was tapping BeBe, North laughed.

On the flipside, someone called Murph today, said he was being disingenuous and Murph got PISSED. If you tell Murph that he's got a hair out of place, he flips out. That's why I can see something like this working on Murph. He's the only guy at SCR who can't take any legit criticism, he goes so far as to hang up on people who disagree with him, and rip co-workers for stealing his chair or leaving chicken soup in the sink. I'm not saying I'm going to call in tomorrow and do what this cat proposes, but (although mean) this might get thru this idiot's thick skull, but I doubt it. More likely, it'll make management take notice that there is a large portion of the listening audience who hate this guy and only listen because they're waiting for B&B to start.

All I know is that I've never looked more forward to Murphapalooza. I hope there are a bunch of callers who do this, just because it'll be damn funny. Nothing's better than a pissed off Murph.

Though I'm not in favor of torturing the poor bastard, I do think this has "quote of the year" potential...

I also think they may start encountering "technical difficulties" with the phones in the early stages of the program. I suspect it may become email intensive if you hoodlums actually follow through on your plan...

Have fun stormin' the castle!

Do you think someone has informed Murph or his staff of his dastardly (and muttley) plan? Out of all the Score inside scoop on this board, you know a Score staffer has to have seen this.

Would he do Tool of the Week via e-mail only? That's his signature segment...
