Doesn't Alex Smith seem like an inevitability? Bears give up a low draft pick and Washington eats half the salary.

I don't think it works like that. They would have to release him or the Bears would have to take on his entire contract.

I prefer my QB's to have two working legs.

Of course our current QB seems to have only one working arm so what do I know.

I Doubt Alex Smith ever plans in the NFL again.

would be an obvious fit, but do they have the cap availability? Probably going to want 3/$100MM

He's retiring or following Josh McDaniels.

You've got to bring someone in who can credibly threaten Mitch for the starting job. Any other strategy is just negligence.

Obvious fit? Not for Brady.

Why would he come to a team, at 43 years old, that cannot protect him even a little bit? He would be out for the year by Week 4.

Ask him to bring his offensive line as well

I'm not an NFL capologist, but I don't think the Bears are even well equipped to take on Brady's $35M a season, let alone sign a bunch of O-Line pieces.

Mitch costs 15 million against the Bears cap next year, whether he is cut, traded, or is exiled to Franks's basement. Carry on.

Who is that quarterback and how much money would you spend to supposedly "fix" what you see is the most important thing that the Bears need to do?

Realizing that not everyone would be available or willing to come, I'd try to get either Bridgewater, Tannehill, Winston, or Manning here to compete with Mitch. That's what you have to do at the very least.

No risk. If Mitch wins than Eli is your capable backup. I assume he's better than Chase Daniel. If he wins then you know Mitch really sucks.

Vegan is correct in bringing in somebody to compete for the job.

But that somebody has to be a viable option. Eli Manning is not. Tom Brady probably is not either given his age and this OLine.

None of those guys is coming unless they are promised a starting spot. And as the others have said, Eli is just awful.

I'd promise the job to Rivers.

Agreed.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky, Mariotta and take a flyer on a late round pick like Hurts or Love

Neither guy will be available as a late round pick.

Bridgewater was far from a proven QB when he was with the Vikings. Paying him for 4 starts as a backup seems like a disaster in the making.
