4 year deal for $4.75 million contract with Cuban outfielder/infielder Alexei Ramirez?

7 or 8 other teams had this kid work out for them? and Nobody gave him a better offer than $4.75 Million and kenny is talking about this guy being a major leaguer?

This is a huge concern. On the surface, it just looks way to good to be true that kenny found a great talent for $1.2 a year that everyone else could have signed that nobody offered him anything?

I have no problem with the deal. He may need additional minor league experience before he's ready for the majors, but it's a cheap deal.

It's a spit in the ocean. 4.75 million. C'mon. All GM's have blown way more on players. Players that they actually counted on. If he never plays for the big league roster it won't be a big deal. If he makes the roster, even as a back up, and produces something, it's basically scale pay. A little over 1 million per year. Tenured MLB back ups make more than that. High draft picks that never make the majors are given more than 4.75 million.

This is no big deal. It's a minor financial chance on a prospect. It's not a risk in todays MLB. If he sucks who cares. If he's good the payoff is a greater reward than the risk if he sucks.

I think you guys missed FYI's point. Kenny was saying at the time that he will be an every day player. I dont think FYI was saying the contract is bad, he was saying the way Kenny presented it was disingenuine which I believe. Im a Sox fan and I didnt like the way it was presented either, I dont know shit about this kid but thats also one of the reasons I dont think he can be a 400 AB player next year. I like what KW did with the pen and think overall the Sox will be better next year, and I agree that the deal seems very decent because it was very low risk

I don't recall Kenny Williams ever saying that Ramirez would be an everyday player this season, just that he would be given the chance in spring training to earn a starting job. Since then, it's become obvious that it's not going to be at his natural position of SS, or CF with Cabrera and Swisher in the mix. I think his shot could come at 2B but Richar would have to have a rough spring and/or start of the season. Even then, Pablo Ozuna will get his fair share of AB's at 2B so I kind of expect that position to be more of a platoon anyways.

In all reality, Ramirez, might need a season in the minors, and assuming he doesn't go backwards in his development, could be an insurance policy at SS should Cabrera hit free agency after the season, or a future CF if Quentin struggles, and Swisher moves over.

So, he needs other players to struggle to get playing time, but the White Sox may start him in the minors just so that he's getting consistent playing time.

All I care about is if this Ramirez attends cockfights or not.

Signing him has nothing to do with stubbornness Big Fan. It's a low risk. If it works great. If it doesn't it certainly doesn't indict Kenny. It's 4.75 million. It's no big deal in todays MLB.

I actually find your obsessive hatred for KW fascinating Big Fan.

It looks like Kenny is smarter than a lot of people think.

I told my wife, ten seconds before he hit the homerun, that he was the one you wanted up.
Kenny has been fortunate with him and Carlos this year.

I don't know, maybe when his skin thickens up to the point "he" thinks "he" is a good GM. A good enough GM to not have to respond to every perceived slight, every little thing written or said on the radio.

I agree with Frank. I dont understand why he is always called lucky. He's clearly a great GM and I agree with Rick that he is the best GM in Chicago sports.

Put his foot in mouth disease aside. What he says to the media doesn't mean anything really. Look at the moves Kenny has made. Nobody can be this lucky. I know bigfan will never admit it, but Kenny has proven himself more times over to be a pretty fucking good GM.

One concern about Ramirez: Can he handle the 162 game season?

He's 160 pounds and he'll be playing every day in hot weather.

I know he played in the hot weather in the Dominican or Venezuela or Cuba before he escaped but how many games do they play there? Anybody know?

I'm just thinking he'll get tired come late August and that bat speed will slow down because of it.

Kenny Williams has nothing to apologi for, nor any need to justify his actions. He's won a WS and has built a very good team this year. For all that, he's 5'1" and itching to fight the town tough guy at the bar. Excellent GM with a bizarre insecurity complex.
