a basilica really only denotes a church where the pope can say mass

I remember the pope coming to Chicago. My parents brought me to the corner of Milwaukee and Lawrence to catch a glimpse of his car as he drove by. This is practically the seat of north side Polonia in a city that was the center for Polish immigration the height of eastern European immigration with a Polish pope coming to the US. I sat on that corner for an interminable amount of time in a sea of unshowered immigrant humanity. Then his motorcade came past and I saw the man. We would meet again about 15 years later in Rome.

He did not stop at QAS and neither have any of the other popes, so no, it does not make me feel superior.

Being Polish I do remember the Papal visit of JP2 exactly as you did. I stood on the corner of 66th and California as he came by. A framed picture of that was on our dining room wall ever since. For whatever reason though I thought he did say a mass at Quigley but apparently not. He certainly visited or else why go down California to get to Wester and hence Quigley?

I believe it is Kasia's, which you can have flash frozen and shipped to Massachusetts if you wish. You might think it is just another mass produced pierogi. However, Kasia was serving that stuff up in a corner deli long before they became more widely available.

Thanks, but what about paczki?

Fuck.

Well, I've gone through this before and it is embarrassing for me to say but I really like Schlegel's on Touhy in I believe Skokie (might be Niles).

Theres an easy joke there for someone more willing to offend

I have hardly been offended with people's openly disrespectful ethnic ignorance in the past so don't let it stop you here.

I can answer that one!

It's a reference to the old Ditka/North show on the Score and a regular caller named Dolphin Jim. One day DJ phoned in to ask da Coach how he was doing. Coach replied: "Good, Dolphin."

From that humble origin a CFMB legend was born.

What do you look like? I have always pictured you as a chortling, cigar-champing ne'er do well who resembles the Penguin (as played by Burgess Meredith) from the Adam West Batman show.

There was some point in this board history a few years ago where people were making bullshit arguments for censorship with "what about the kids" type arguments, which Maud was famous for making on The Simpsons.

never. I used to get my hair cut at the Pentagon.

I don't know if I was ever recruited for anything. Weber and JoeOrrHS recruited me to play high school football. I guess I did get recruited for a couple of jobs but it certainly wasn't anything impressive even though they were seemingly great jobs.

There was probably a time where I was a semi cub fan. I certainly didn't hate them growing up and I probably know as much about the Cubs or my youth as the White Sox.

My Cub dislike was more fueled by the unquestioning, frat boy type fans of the mid 80s until just after the world series. I'll admit fans seem to have woken from their drunken sleep if Cub fans will admit to the fawning, unquestioning Go Cubs Win attitude for about 40 years of my life.

Does anyone know what he really looks like. Even if you look at pictures, what you see is being interpreted through ego and self preserving mental items that keep you from seeing what you really are.

I'll tell you what I see, average height, above average weight going between medically overweight and obese depending on the time of the year, graying, thinning hair. I think you can see a certain amount of past athleticism rather than just a blob who was always fat.

As far as ne'er do well, you can't see that. However, if that is perception, you'd be objectively incorrect. The phrase denotes lazy, embarrassing, unaccomplished and irresponsible. I'm pretty low key but if I looked at it from the outside, I'm pretty accomplished academically and professionally. I look back on things and I worked incredibly hard in my 20s and 30s at a level that just isn't common. I think people would say I'm responsible to the point of being boring. I do probably embarrass myself and others on occasion.

The gay lifestyle is attractive in this day and age. We are probably at the point for the first time in thousands of years where it is actually advantageous to openly identify as homosexual. However, I used to get a boner watching Laverne and Shirley as a young kid so I have to accept that I was just born the other way.

I didn't mean to suggest you were lazy or unaccomplished. You've obviously got a lot going for you. Your sardonic and sometimes hedonistic board persona has given me a strange image of your appearance, though.

I think dolphin described himself accurately though I've never seen him at a weight I would call obese. He looks like a guy who could play a detective in a TV show or movie, maybe the older partner of the hot young guy who is the star.

As I mentioned to you awhile back, although I've met Dolphin twice, I could only give the vaguest physical description of him. It's almost as if he's perfected the ability to blend in, all while he seemed to be completely aware of his surroundings and all of the conversations going on around him. Good Dolphin: Black woman of mystery.

medically. I mean by that grid that has height and weight with the category you fit. I don't view myself as someone who is one cupcake away from an episode of My 400 Pound Life.
