I'm glad he had a couple of good years away from the road with his family.

RIP to a legend.

I'm not even a Rush fan and I recognize this as an incredibly uninformed and stupid comment.

One of the greats...probably influenced more progressive rock drummers than anyone.

What a huge loss.

Not a big Rush fan but that documentary was great.

Absolutely awful.

:( :( :(

Favorite drummer; favorite band.

What’s really sad is he had a really young daughter - maybe 8 y.o. or so.

"Neil is the most air-drummed-to drummer of all time,”former Police drummer Stewart Copeland said in 2015. “Neil pushes that band, which has a lot of musicality, a lot of ideas crammed into every eight bars — but he keeps the throb, which is the important thing. And he can do that while doing all kinds of cool shit.

Perfect.

Wow, that's awful. What an amazing talent and intriguing person. I really like this quote from him in the Rolling Stone article:

Quote:
“I set out to never betray the values that 16-year-old had, to never sell out, to never bow to the man. A compromise is what I can never accept.”

Fuck yeah, the Holden Caulfield of the rock world. I don't agree with the Randian aspects of his personal philosophy, but I sure admire his commitment to his art and the creation of a space outside the world of commerce.

Damn. Huge loss.

There will always be a debate as to how newbs pronounce his surname, though.

Yikes - Didn't Buddy Rich die of the same thing? Is there a link between drumming & brain disease?

That doc made me a huge fan of the band . Genuinely nice guys . Lot of heartache for him along the way.

I am shocked and very sad. He had already lived through the deaths of his daughter and first wife. The one article mentioned a three and a half or so battle with brain cancer. I suppose it makes all the sense out of the last mega tour and how privately his band mates answered the constant questions regarding comebacks.

Those that are fans and read his books know he was terribly shy particularly in performance. He always ran off the stage at the last note and was gone into the night. On their very last concert in LA he shocked even his band mates and came front of stage after to raise hands, bow and take it all in.

Maybe he knew maybe not. RIP to a true rock legend of my generation and thanks.

Rush was a HUGE part of my high school years. I remember watching the NHL on ESPN on mute, listening to Rush, and thinking I must be becoming uber-Canadian. This sucks.

This is horrible. It's like finding out Michael Jordan died. Once I decided that I wanted to try acid, I did it for a Rush concert. Oh boy oh boy oh boy did I NOT regret that!

In early 87 a buddy won tickets to Rush in concert TINGLEY COLLISEUM, says the big voice guy. Laser light show was the big draw. Subdivisions iirc. Good times. I don't know drums like furious. I do know I liked his style and left that show having greater appreciation for his talent. Be well. Enjoy existence beyond the gilded cage.

I'll always prefer to remember the original footage of Tom Sawyer. The solo at 2:35 is most famous, but the ride cymbal at 3:00 was impossible for me.
