Moncada crushed him in FanGraphs WAR which is what the intelligentsia tends to use. Virtually anything can happen in a baseball season so who knows how it will turn out.

Better career numbers or a better career? I can see him putting up overall better numbers when Baez slows down, but I do not see a WS in Moncada's future with the White Sox.

Better offensive numbers.

Why would you be impressed about picking up and laying down turds? Most people just leave them in the neighbors yard.

True. MANY Cubs fans are turds. I guess I shouldn't be all that impressed.

Who do Sox fans have this weird need to be better than cubs fans or beg to have players better than Cubs players? What is that all about? It smells like an inferiority complex which is weird because your team is working on improving for the first time in about 14 years.

I for one am happy the Sox and Cubs are both on the verge of being competitive at the same time again.

No hate at all.

Because it is about the Sox/Cubs....if it were a football discussion Frank would be on your side

We are constantly told that Cubs fans don't care about the Sox. Yet here we are five pages later and there are MANY Cub fans attempting to tell Sox fans what morons we are for thinking a Sox player will have a better year than a Cubs.

Inferiority complex indeed.

Sox fans can’t be happy they will have a good team finally, they have to try to bury the Cubs along with it. It’s a strange mentality. I’ve never understood it fully, they have a good ballpark and for most of my life they were either the better team or just as good. It’s just that no one nationally cares about them so they take out their frustrations on the Cubs.

These type of responses by Cub fans are the strangest ones to me. Moncada is 3 years younger and was better last year. You’re acting like it’s comparing Leury Garcia to Baez.

It’s a silly question in the OP. Would you rather have a guy that’s been in the MVP discussion and has playoff and WS experience or the guy that has underachieved until last season? Maybe the answer eventually is Moncada but for 2020... gtfo

The answer was Moncada last year. It’s probably going to be Moncada again in 2020 and the years afterwards.

I’ll admit “underachieved until last year” while talking about a 24 year old did get a chuckle out of me though.

He was the centerpiece of the Sale trade. He wasn’t some college draft pick they were waiting on. He was supposed to be a stud from day one.

Instead he waited a year to turn into a stud. This is a bad argument.

He still hasn’t turned into anything! He had a good season on a terrible team with no pressure. You’re projecting way too much.

We’ll see. I have a feeling there will be a lot more quiet Cub fans in this thread 10 months from now.

There’s nothing to be quiet about. He might be awesome, we’re acknowledging that. You asked for 2020 based on their history.... That’s an easy choice of Baez. More important position, more of a resume. It will be interesting to see how these young Sox players perform this season now that people are paying attention and the focus is on win now. If they step up, the Sox should be really fun to watch.

It is. Both fan bases have their quirks. They are all well documented and put in plexiglas.

To be fair, that was directed at Caller Bob. I believe I was accurate. Do you disagree?

Again this isn't just about numbers. Given the respective position the Cubs and Sox are in this upcoming season, I'll take Moncada over Baez. Moncada is going to be playing in a loaded lineup with almost no easy out, and the MLB batting champion plays SS next to him. It's really a no brainer.

Us Alpha Sox fans understand that success isn't just being dominant but also bringing about the ruin of your enemy.

I don't expect beta warm and fuzzy fans to understand the mentality.
