The Bears should free up this $27M immediately and rework Mack's deal again.

I'd keep Floyd but let go of the other three. Floyd is a useful player, he does a lot of things well that dont show in the stat sheet. Is he worth $13m? No, but I dont think there are many ways to spend that money that would be better or less risky than just keeping Floyd.

I expect the Bears to be a bit more aggressive this time around. They wont be settling for little incremental changes, they're going to shake it up quite a bit.

Trade one of the second round picks for Trent Williams and sign Jack Conklin. There's your offensive line basically remade overnight.

Then get some late round guys or cheap free agents in for the guard spot to replace Long, I dont think they need to spend a ton to do that. Alex Bars presents a lot of potential and while he has done nothing to earn incumbent status I dont think they need to spend a ton in free agent capital or draft picks to bring in camp competition that may not be able to beat him out for the job anyways.

Of course the Redskins know what they've got in Williams and seem intent on keeping him.

Redskins aren’t letting go of Trent for a 2nd, at least be realistic.

They are trying to woo him back but if he holds fast about not playing they'll have to spin him off this time around. Thirty-two and a year away from free agency without having played football in years...a second round pick may be an overpay.

None of this matters.

Fix the quarterback position, and all is well.

There’s really no such thing as overpay for an OT of his caliber. Every single team in the nfl needs a quality OT. Every single one. He’s not getting traded for just a 2nd if he gets traded at all.

Nearly verbatim what you said about Mack a week before the Bears traded for him.

Good in coverage and good against the run. He is not a great pass rusher, but he is a better pass rusher than his statistics indicate.

There is actually a decent case to be made that his best year (I wouldn't go so far as to pluralize that) is ahead of him. He's shown an ability to beat blockers and the game is not too fast for him. He may really have a season where he lights everyone up and there is a lot to indicate 2020 could be that season. $13m is not prohibitively expensive, they''ll have enough cap room otherwise to do what they want to do.

Agree on fixing the QB situation, but a whole lot more needs to be done afterwards.

They will be lucky to get a second for a guy with his recent history of health issues.

The problem is that there's no reason to believe Pace is capable of fixing the QB problem.

I think he is capable of it, but is not willing to actually do it.

Fire everyone should be the move. They are all failures.

When they do not make the playoffs next year, this will happen.

You can find an OLB that's "Good in coverage" for far less than $13m, several much better FA options that would rush the passer much better than Floyd. As far as him being "good against the run", would say he's average at best, gets stood up and pushed inside easily by OT's and TE's, loses outside leverage frequently. Never developed an inside power move, so get escorted easily outside by average OT's and gets stonewalled by quality OT's. Little more than an average NFL OLB, basically replacement level player that can be replaced, certainly nowhere near the production expected from a guy drafted at the top of the first round. Good teams move on and let the guy be average somewhere else for a bunch of money, bad teams stick with and overpay these guys and stay average. Know Pace is your guy, but after watching 49ers team built with the type of players I've referenced in out past draft talks, even the most ardent Pace supporter must admit he can and must do a whole lot better.

Not really an overpay since the commitment does not last more than one year. He's fine, nowhere near the biggest problem on the roster.

I'm not committing $13M to Floyd when I have so many needs and very few dollars.

$13m for a guy who plays above-average against the run and in coverage, but average at best as a push rusher? No thanks.

You can draft a guy or pick up a journeyman who does the same.

Like Amos before him.. I don’t really care either way about Floyd staying or going. But let’s not act like he’s a special player that would be difficult to replace. They need to give some serious thought to letting Travathan walk and keeping Kwiatkowski as his replacement. You should be able to draft Floyd’s replacement in the 3rd or 4th round.

We also need another safety too unless HHCD comes back on another friendly deal (which I don’t see happening).

The Bears right now need to be giving serious considerations to which replacement options are best via the draft or free agency so they can prioritize both. As is I really think they need to use their 2nd round picks on an O-linemen and either a TE or pass rusher (whichever grades out higher at that spot). I haven’t looked into free agency too much so I can’t comment on their best options there.

As for ‘fixing the QB’ position -it has to be now, this upcoming season because I think that’s all Nagy and Pace have left timeline wise to do it. So to me, given their draft status, that seems to indicate either a trade, free agency, or what’s already on the roster.. and unfortunately Mitch looks like the best option at the moment between all those given what’s available.. so, not good.

You have to find a TE somewhere, a few options in free agency are interesting, but not sure teams are giving up productive TE's, so you almost have to draft one, problem is that it usually takes guys a few years to be learn the position. Can you find an OLB in FA that gives you more than Floyd? What will you do at LT, those do not come cheap and you likely don't have a high enough draft pick to get a day one starter in the draft. I think Bars get a chance to win one of the starting guard spots next year, he had a second round grade before he got hurt and they must have promised him something for him to turn down change to sign with Pats. QB obviously needs to be addressed, but how? At the very least they need to draft a developmental guy, do you that with one of the second round picks?

Hurts and Hopkins in the second round, that fills two massive holes in QB and Tight End.

Whatever they can do to get a TE they should do it IMMEDIATELY.

Trevathan is as good as gone.

What they should absolutely not do under any circumstances is reactively and emotionally overdraft a quarterback in the second because they are in a childish rage watching this Chiefs-Texans game.

Yep. Nagy will tell Pace they just need a Kelce-like player for his offense to REALLY gel.

The Bears should have over $50M to play with in free agency.
