Sounds like the punishment is gonna be huge...fines, suspensions, loss of draft picks, and two weeks locked in a room reading Joe Orr's baseball thoughts.

That's a brutal punishment especially if you include Flapjacks and good dolphin 's White Sox posts.

Damn.

Quote:
Houston Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow and manager AJ Hinch have each been suspended for one year as part of Major League Baseball's ruling in the team's sign-stealing controversy, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

The organization has also been fined $5 million and will forfeit its first- and second-round picks in 2020 and 2021, according to Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich of The Athletic.

Former Astros assistant GM Brandon Taubman has also been placed on baseball's ineligible list.

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora will face "harsh" punishment as well for his role as a bench coach on the 2017 team, although New York Mets manager Carlos Beltran will not be disciplined, nor will any player on the Astros.

I don't think the Red Sox thing is come down yet. What was mentioned today was when Cora was with Houston.

I think that the punishment is about right. It is severe with more coming, namely to Cora. This will also place an asterisk on their pennant and World Series wins. I never liked Joey Cora. He's always been a punk and he needs to be banned for at least a year and probably more also.

Not brutal at all. Manfred confirms they stole signs all through the postseason. They're damn lucky they don't vacate their championship

I don't think this is a big deal at all. Players have been stealing signs for the entire history of the game. If you don't want other teams stealing your signs, get more complex signs.

Coppolella. I guess they realize that the game's present and future is international, and they don't want to take any chances screwing that up??? I don't know.

could slow down the pace of the game a bit to have to change signs after every pitch.

They were "punished" last year IIRC.

I think there's a big difference between a runner at second grabbing signs and an electronic system that utilizes cameras/technology.

Exactly. Its one thing to call a pitch out, or if a runner on second base signals to the batter that the catcher is setting up inside/outside. Using monitors in the dugouts and banging on trashcans is a lot different.

why did it take so long to come out? You'd think as soon as one of the players left the team, it would come out.

That is NOT the issue. Using technology is the issue and to some extent baseball itself is to blame partially for it failure to provide safeguards to prevent this shit from being able to be used to send information to the players as to what pitch is coming which of course is a HUGE ADVANTAGE to a player. This kind of stuff has been going on in baseball for decades with teams putting people in scoreboards to spy on the catchers sign and relay the sign to the hitters as well as other stuff.
