I do not see this with Pace at all whatsoever. He really does not try to break the mold much aside from a couple day two or day three draft picks.

Taking Mitch over Watson qualifies. Everyone thought that was insane even at the time.

The wrong pick is different than trying to outsmart everyone. Being wary of Watson's medical situation was definitely prudent at the time.

Picking by far the least qualified and least accomplished QB of the top 3 sure seems like trying to outsmart everybody. After what Watson did to Alabama that pick was indefensible even at the time.

The trading up one spot makes it even worse.

He's had multiple ACL injuries. Indefensible is way too strong a word, but whatever you're gonna believe what you're gonna believe.

He didn't have a job last year. He appears to be more of a blocking TE coach since he used to also had a lot of jobs as an offensive line coach.

Defilippo was QB coach with Nick Foles in Philly and also OC of the Jags with Nick Foles....

This guy has lots of ties to Nick Foles.... just saying.

I think they like his work with Wentz. There is ZERO chance the Bears pick up a contract like that when they have no money and too many holes.

THIS.
it's exactly why QB next year is Mitch and only Mitch.

Defilippo was awful as Vikings' OC. Seemed to be a decent QB coach, and did okay with Minshew last season. Maybe he helps (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky.

(Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky has his issues, but his issues are lower than O-line and head coach.

If anything, DeFilipo is another guy that's going to have zero interest in running the ball.

This offense appears to be looking very similar to what we saw in 2019....that's going to be bad.

Very true. Lots of O-linemen please. :) :)

DeFilippo has no idea tight ends even exist, so he will have no problem integrating into the Bears offensive system.

They had TEs in Philadelphia. His job is to work on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky.

He was QB coach in Philadelphia. He had never been an OC to that point so I doubt he had a large say in overall offensive schemes. That being said, Ertz' best two years are the last two years, which is when DeFilippo was gone from Philly.

He did not incorporate TE's in Minnesota or Jacksonville.

It's not his job now. His job is to make (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky or a draft pick a better quarterback. Nagy has to find a usable TE.

I'm saying it is a good fit. He is back to having the job he can do decently enough. He can commit to teaching (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky there is no such thing as read progression...you look at one WR route, see if he is open, and if not, scramble. And with these excellent tips, maybe one day (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky can be as good as 178th overall pick and rookie Gardner Minshew.

Vikings would have had a shot in the 2nd half if (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky was their quarterback.
