I'm pretty sure the owners mandate the screwing around with baseballs.

What about all the players who cheat? Is one advantage bigger than another?

not sure what you are talking about. eveyone plays with the same ball so I wouldn't call that cheating. individuals who cheat should be punished as well.

Bullshit. Getting an edge has been a part of baseball for a long time. But using electronics isn't league wide and is rightly being punished severely. I predict that this stuff is going to go farther than this on to the Cubs, the Brewers, and other teams. Any manager that allowed this stuff to happen will have his job in peril. I expect Joe Maddon to be one of the next guys to fall. That creep is a cheater plain and simple and the Cubs have for a long time have been known as cheaters. don't have to look far and wide to remember SamME SOSO.

It’s made for the most interesting baseball offseason in forever, I’ll give it that. Baseball coming out and saying they didn’t find any evidence of electronic cheating is laughable.

Apparently MLB commisioner Rob Manfred found out about rampant electronic cheating in MLB in 2017 and warned teams to cut it out or he'd go nuclear on their asses. No less than 6 days after the commish's statement in 2017 the Astros were back to their cheating ways. Can't blame the commish for bringing down the hammer on teams who deliberately line-stepped after he gave em a chance to back off and brush it under the rug.

I long for the simpler life of baseball when SamME SOSO corked his bats and tried to hide them in the rafters of the Cubs locker room and dumped buckets of water over his head to cool himself off when his roids took over in the August heat at Pigley Field. :P :P :P

Yeah. Can you imagine the records that Teddy Ballgame would have had if he hadn't been interrupted by two wars as well as baseball having the DH rule back then?

This scandal forces you to ponder when behavior that is at least tolerated, if not accepted, crosses the line. I think just about everyone would say that spotting a pitcher's tell and exploiting that information is fine. I also think most people would say that a bench coach simply watching another team and stealing their signs, a la Joe Nossek, is also fine. For my money, I don't think that using a video camera to do the same thing Joe Nossek would do for the White Sox is that objectionable. However, for some reason, I find this buzzer thing to be beyond the pale. Since reasonable people can differ as to what behavior crosses the line, and as near as I know, MLB did not punish the Astros for the use of buzzers, I am surprised by the severity of the punishment.

Yes technology or mire than the simplest base coach signals seems to be the line.

Maybe if it was a White Sox - Royals get-away day game in an empty ballpark, but most MLB baseball is played in front of upwards of hundreds of fans making all manner of noises. Assume most umps, esp home plate umps, have learned to tune out the random background noises drunk fans and cheating ballplayers make. If you weren't hip to the cheating aspect, most folks would figure it was just some OCD fan trying to distract the players.
