I don't drink wine as much as I drink whiskey but I'm a dry guy. You should sample a lot of inexpensive wine in order to find out what you like. Once you figure it out then you should spend a few more dollars.

You can get great wine under$30. Don’t break the bank at first. Also unless you drink the entire bottle it will take a big quality hit by the next day. I have a vacuvin stopper that helps somewhat

I have never been a huge red wine guy. As I’ve aged I can tolerate it a bit more than I did in the past but I doubt wine will ever be my goto beverage. My wife was a white win fan when she drank but she doesn’t anymore so wine is even rarer for me as I’m not going to drink a bottle by myself.

The best bang for the buck is Cameron Hughes wine.

As a négociant (wine trader), they don't own vineyards or a winery -their focus is on purely finding the best wines and negotiating the best price for customers. Cameron has worked in the wine industry his entire life, and through deep connections built over decades, has access to top wineries and producers all over the world. They look in every cellar and barrel room, and peek behind every door that says "Employees Only." Sometimes they buy wine still in the barrel, and other times they buy "shiners" (wine already in a bottle with no label). Regardless of how they get it, the mission is simple: buy the best possible wine at the best possible price.

These deals are made discreetly, and typically protected by an agreement to keep the source winery undisclosed to protect their brand. Their wines are also only available online, direct to you - this means no distributor and retailer markups. The result? They are able to offer $100+ Napa Cabernets for a third of the price, or a $60 bottle of Pinot for under $20 (yes, the exact same wine sold under the original winery label).

6 or 7 years ago I sat in a conference about permaculture next to a lady from Oregon whose family ran a vineyard (maybe it was Washington state but I think Oregon). Anyways they were working on a cider which is one reason she was there but also on a pesticide and herbicide free wine, which was actually not so hard according to her. The lack of fungicide was the one they were having trouble with (probably needed to adjust plant spacing and pruning for better air flow if my memory serves what they were trying). I did buy a pino from the winery when I saw it at binnys once but that was not a biodynamic version.

Anyways, not the conversation I expected on a frigid December day In the Lincoln room of some Springfield hotel.

I should add that one advantage of the weird PA liquor/wine laws is you have to go to a state store. They do a really good job letting you know what is what and they have “chairman’s specials”. Those can beat Bernsies deals I assure you.

Yup,go to Binnys. The people there don't try to steer you to the expensive stuff. They ask you the correct questions to steer you to what you might like.
