Do you think the fact that Tunney is an admitted homosexual had anything to do with the hostile treatment he received from North this morning?

North is an obvious homophobe, and an advocate for the "little guy" who Tunney is supposedly harming. But, while hearing the replay on the midday dope's show, I just kept wondering "if this guy were straight would Pappy handle this differently" and I think he would have. North has no respect for white collar people, and even less for people who are non-white, non-male, and non-hetero.

What's the point of doing a fact finding interview when you think you know all the facts? This is another prime example of why he shouldn't be on the air. I wonder what the droogies who share the studio with him said about it, did Annie the bleeding heart or Fred say anything?

Though after Tunney hung up North made reference to "ramrodding" and getting a different gay guy to run against Tunney, it was mostly a standard North interview.
You know. A diatribe about some simple point that is confusing only to North, and that exists as a an earth-changing controversy only in North's mind.
Tunney said vendors would be moved across the street because the sidewalk width had been reduced because of the bleacher work. North declares himself a hot dog stand guy and says, "we all know" that the bleacher work was illegal. This because it involved a city sidewalk and North knew "you can't even hang a sign over a sidewalk".
I'm left wondering if North notices any of the 100,000 thousand business signs in this city, or if thinks all those tire repair guys "have the alderman in their pocket". I also wonder why we're talking about signs. Tunney pointed out that you can hang a sign if you get a permit.
North demanded to know when Tunney had ever opposed the Trib on anything. Tunney quickly reeled off a few. Tunney says that there are a lot of competing interests at Wrigley and he tries to work with everybody and reach compromises.
North started stumbling around with a series of accusations against Tunney and statements about "little guys". I lost interest until Tunney said "is there any thing else, I have other things I have to do.". North says, "I'm just trying to understand this thing!" Tunney hung up. The only thing to do unless Tunney intended to make a carreer of clearing up North's constant state of confusion.
It was a standard North interview. An imaginary controversy with imagined tough questioning. There is an earlier thread here on the pattern.
Ann and Fred kept quiet until it was over. Then they agreed with North. North took a couple supportive calls from his "hard core little guys", whatever they are. Stupid, I guess.

Your right, this whole thing is no big deal. I doubt that vendors are going to lose that much money. There right across the street. It really is a non issue.

North is a graduate (or GED recipient) of the Ed Tyll "create controversey where none exists" school. Plus, when's the last time Pappy gave two shits about the "little guy"? Probably at Christmas, when he gave his "help" a copy of Caucasian Man. The only little guys he cares about are the ones he reads commercial copy for.

North is the village idiot for all of North America. He has no concept of anything he ever speaks about. My question is why does anyone even go on his show? He is a moron and anyone who thinks he ever makes a point is also a moron. His show is nothing more than the town drunk spewing his idiotic opinions.

I suspect that's more a testament to Rock's ability to line up guests rather than Mikey's "reputation" or charisma.

Listening to Mikey has given me a good idea of which establishments to avoid, should I journey into the city.

Seriously, Tony's Italian Deli isn't bad, except for the pictures of The Moron and displays of "Caucasian Man" you have to look at while getting to the food.

Ask Mike & BeeBee what happened to their producers Christmas party a few months ago; come on North - what about the little guys??!!

Funny how North is for the little guys when it comes to the vendors and being pushed across the street. But he's not for the little guys when it comes to the people in New Orleans. Apparently they got what they deserved. Maybe because they are black.

It is in Chicago's Edison Park neighborhood on the northwest side of the city. I don't have an exact address but it is on Northwest Highway just north of Devon on the north side of the street.

It really is a great family owned Italian deli/grocery. It's small but it has a lot of hard to find items.

I like the home made arancini.

Tony's Italian Deli is located at 6708 N. Northwest Highway, Chicago.

I think their cannoli and some of their salads are excellent--the sandwiches aren't as good, but are still way above average for Chicago. If you want a truly excellent Italian sub, head south on Harlem avenue to Riviera Groceries--it's just north of Belmont, west side of the street. In my estimation, this is probably the best place for subs in the city (just edging out Bari Foods on Grand Ave.). You pick out a small loaf of bread from their basket, go up to the counter, and tell the guy to make you a sandwich. Get something loaded with their house-cured meats. I usually go for the hot house cappicola, the hot house sopressata, some genoa and mortadella with fresh mozzarella, lettuce tomato and the house-made giardinera. It is a fantastic, transcendent sandwich. All for about $4.50. Way better than Tony's. Nottoli Sausages on that strip of Harlem (further north) also makes a great sandwich and Caponie's, a block north of Riviera, is a great pizza place. There is actually tons of fantastic food near that Harlem/Belmont intersection.

People like you try to obfuscate the issue by interjecting sexual orientation or race etc. into an argument, thus discrediting the whole thing because Mike is homophobic. You then descend into personal attacks that have no revelance to the issue at hand. Straw men are easily constructed by people who use no logic in debate. I remember in another post you said- I paraphrase- in your younger years you never met a protest you didn't like. It seems to me you have not progressed much from your feckless youth and you are still trying to validate it. I heard the same interview as you and Tunney came off as a typical politician. Once the questions got tough he had the peoples business to take care of, give me a break. I agree Blazing, Mike does know very little. TribCo has a pattern of behavior that has been on display for all to see. Windscreens- oh ya those are because of security concerns. No, that was the first step taken to get money from rooftops. Which I agreed with, if you are going to make money off someone else's product, they deserve a cut. Now it's the street vendors. Oh it is safety concerns, BS. TribCo wants to sell its own product outside its ballpark, fair enough. Just don't try to soften it by shrouding it in safety concerns. Tell me the damn truth.

That sounds excellent. While I live on the north side that area is too damn unaccesable. At the same time I have no problem making a special trip for great food. I wish I had read this yesterday as I would have grabbed a sammich on my way to work.

I do agree that Tony's is above average but not superior in it's hot food items. I like them more for the grocery part with home made pastas and hard to find delicacies (like the arancini).

That Harlem area on the edge of the city does have a lot of good looking Italian places.
