Not really. To use Rick’s example, legal weed and same sex marriage seem to be examples of the tide turning on that. So it sounds like you still agree with me that this issue isn’t like those and nothing will meaningfully change, which was my whole point all along!

Well, you probably will shape it to your own needs, but there clearly is going to be more gun control measures taken in the next 20-30 years. It pretty much has to. Drones with weapons on them have to be dealt with legislatively or our current "active shooter" problems will feel like a minor annoyance.

Apparently the students were not there. This was a drill for the teachers and admin staff. The Zion police and other departments were on the scene. The "students" were rushed out of the building and onto buses that took them off campus with a police escort. When the school was "all clear" they brought the "students" back to the school for "reunification" in which the "students" are reunited with their parents, are signed off for, etc...

Well...one of the "students" didn't make it. There were clergy on scene. And the had the drama teacher play the part of the grief stricken parent. She did it so well, that half of the staff were crying. Rachel said it was the weirdest experience she has ever had.

Thats kinda fucked up, Doug. I can understand having the drill and evacuations, shooting blanks, police/EMS running around, etc...but did they really need the clergy and crying parent actors?

They do something similar every 4 years at the high school where they act out a drunk driving scene out in front of the school and shut the streets down. The drunk driver hits a car with a student in it and dies, an actual student plays the person that dies. They have a hearse take the body away and then have a funeral where the actual parents of the deceased child talk. It is pretty wild and very emotional to MANY.

This was the 1st h.s. in Lake County to do the reunification part. I think the idea is to make it as real as possible so the staff has an understanding of ALL of it, in the event it ever happens.

btw: there's bullet proof glass separating the cafeteria and the Superintendent's office.
