I think the longevity thing often gets overplayed and misapplied in these discussions. If the Chiefs win the Super Bowl and Mahomes never plays another down or even just looks mediocre the rest of his career, I'm still more comfortable considering him than Eli or Rivers. I know there isn't a current Sayers equivalent at QB already in the Hall but I see that as more a matter of circumstance than anything else.

So basically every NFL mvp automatically gets in?

No but a historically great MVP season followed by a Super Bowl and top 3 quality season would for me outweigh a longer run of bottom half top 10 seasons.

When talking about Eli's postseason success, it should be mentioned that in his Super Bowl runs he beat a 13-3 Favre team and a 15-1 Rodgers team at Lambeau.

It should also be mentioned that Eli's defense never conceded more than 20 points during the Super Bowl runs.

My mistake was trusting Caller Bob.

in 2007 the giants defense were 7th in yards allowed and 17th in points allowed (good but not great) and 4th in rushing offense, which certainly helped him run a much more controlled offense, no question about it. He wasn't asked to carry that team, but he played very well in the playoffs.

In 2011 the giants were 27th in yards allowed and 25th in team defense, and dead last in rushing. Eli carried that team to the Super Bowl, so any argument that he only won because of rushing and defense is revisionist history. It was his best season and the only point in his career where he was close to a top 5 QB. The Giants defense was dreadful that year, but they rose to the occasion in the playoffs.

He will be in the Hall of Fame based simply on the merit of those 2 Super Bowl runs and victories over heavily-favored Patriots teams, and winning MVP both times. Going 2-0 over Brady in Super Bowls during the Patriots heyday and never missing a game due to injury in his entire career allowing him to accumulate massive stats make it a no-brainer even though admittedly he was never one of the best in the league, except maybe in 2011.

He was never one of the best, not even close in 2011

His best year was 2015 and he wasn't top 5 then either.
Eli is basically Blake Bortles with 2 rings that the D earned.

Well I don’t know what to tell you other than you are resoundingly wrong on this on many levels.
