I'm thinking of getting new wedges. I have $200 in gift certificates and have enough balls to start the season, so I need to use them on something else. Got my eye on Cleveland RTX 4s.

The RTX4 is superb wedge. Love the grind options and the heavier DGS400 shaft is stock.

Got a 52 mid bounce. It was on sale for $109. I might go back and get a 58 too.

$34 Callaway golf shoes. Looks like 2 pairs gets you free shipping.

You must hit the hybrids well. How far does a 6 hybrid travel?

I hit them better than irons for sure, but I can't hit a fairway wood to save my life. My 6 is my 160 yard club. I'm a short hitter, but am just as accurate with the 6 hybrid as an 8 iron. I have an odd game.

Ordered 1 pair of the Callaways in white for $33 and 1 pair of New Balance in black for $44.

Thanks for the heads up!

I think I’ll take my driver and putter to get regrouped at lunch today. Hoping to get into a simulator this weekend and start swinging a little bit. In search of the elusive fade and the quest starts soon.

If you are taking the two clubs together aren't they already grouped?

I've been hitting a little fade off the tee the last couple years. I don't know if it's due to swinging slower as I age, or the fact that the club I joined 5 years ago really is a faders course and I have just instinctively adjusted.

I guarantee adjusting your grip will help this year. Also as I got old I learned last year harder swings do not make up for that.

An old pro at the Tinley Park Golf Expo years ago gave my Dad a tip. As you get older, switch to ladies balls. They are designed for slower swing speeds. My Dad did that a few years ago, and actually gained a bit of distance during that season. He is really slowing now as he approaches 70 so the ball doesn't quite matter anymore, but as you get into your 50s and 60s a ladies ball could very much help you game.

Don't get me wrong though, I love hitting a fade. Better than the snap hooks I was prone to hit 5 years ago.

Exactly what I’m trying to eliminate Franky! The 30 yard draw or snapper

Played a late afternoon round last Saturday at Moody Gardens Golf Course.

Always fun to play on the island because of the wind. We got in 12 holes which was nice seeing as how we didn't tee off till 3:30 or something, and it was a really overcast day.

Didn't tally the front nine score because after we left we went right to a party, but I did card two pars and a birdie over the 12 holes. The birdie was a fun chip in from about 30 yards off the green.

Switching to ladies balls would be like asking a bad free throw shooter to shoot underhand. It may work, but the emasculation might be too damaging to handle.

Not even going to ladies really. Many many golfers never realize they are not good enough to make the use of $50 a box three or more piece balls worth it. Stick with a good moderate two piece (Warbird) and you may play much better actually.

Hey if I'm golfing at 64 years old, and somebody can show me that using Wilson pink breast cancer golfballs can help keep my score in the 80's, I'm buying a couple dozen on the spot.

All they are is lower compression. Remember the Precept Lady? Wilson is marketing lower compression balls now. I remember "back in the day" Titlest had 90 compression balls (red numbers) and 100 compression balls (black numbers). The concept went away for a while but Bridgestone (I think) brought it back about 5 years ago. Remember their campaign to get "fit" for a ball?

My wife showed this article on Joliet Country Club closing. They were semi-private last year and it was $2,000 to play all the golf that you wanted...walking of course. Looked like a nice course, but I never had a chance to play it. I joined Morris CC instead.

Regarding golf balls, I like to play something a bit different. Last year, it was the Maxfli from Dick's. This year I'm playing a Mizuno ball.

Playing some simulator golf tomorrow morning with some buddies. Should be interesting as I haven't touched a club in 4 months. I don't really trust the simulator much either. I'm guessing it's going to be a disaster especially if I try to integrate my new swing thoughts.

Because, good Lord, if there’s anything the Joliet area and Will County desperately need it’s more warehouses

It definitely is. It's a 'country' Country Club in the sense that the clubhouse and amenities aren't over the top. But you get to play Morris and Nettle Creek for the same price and there is no initiation fee.

Finally got into the simulator last night. Overall it was mixed results. I have a pretty severe in to out swing that creates a consistent right to left ball flight. I need to swing more down the line. I was trying to play what felt like a cut swing to me but was closer to a controlled in to out. Feels weird and I need to address trip and aiming but thought it was positive overall. Playing the long game on this project for a more permanent fix. I am sure there will be some frustrating moments but I can depend on timing as it creates inconsistencies in scoring and performance. I could shoot 68 or 85 depending how the timing was.
