You have to love how in the NFL a guy can come out of absolute nowhere to be sought after by about a quarter of the league and nobody even knows who he is or that he's on so many team's radar until after he's signed. This would never happen in baseball or basketball, sports where prospects are hyper-scrutinized from very young ages.

He was on the Vikings practice squad in 2016 several times after being released and re-signed. Goes to the CFL for a couple seasons and now all of a sudden he is a huge name. Weird.

He changed positions from QB in college to DB.

It really isn't all that strange that it would take a guy a couple of years learning the new position and emerge as a NFL caliber starter.

Everyone has been laser-focused on the offensive line issues, justifiably so, but cornerback was sneakily one of their biggest positional needs on the roster.

Conklin would be a perfect fit and he has to be priority number one in free agency, but I am beginning to wonder if with the now $9m cleared up by the inevitable release of Amukamara, the coming Mack restructure and a few more releases that seem forgone (Gabriel) if there isn't potential to make a splash.

Kinda sorta. They need to play better, but some of their success is predicated on the pass rush getting home and forcing the ball out quickly. That happened much more in 2018 than 2019.

Cue FF and Furious swinging by to let us know how much $ Mack is stealing!

Nah this season is over for our teams. Clean slate for Mack next year.

I think they played pretty well in the secondary this year but Amukamara was as good as gone with his cap hit and they needed to do something to fill his roster spot. As far as I'm concerned this Roberson signing accomplishes that.

this guy could be absolute garbage. you can't assume he's a starter.

Can say the same thing about any draft pick or free agent signing. He'll have to win the spot in camp, but he is definitely the favourite to be the number two cornerback opposite Fuller.

Tolliver likely goes into camp as starter opposite Fuller, he has actual starting NFL experience. That said, a good pass rush makes any secondary competent, need to find someone other than Mack that can win one on one and get to the passer. Do they try to bring in a veteran OLB that has better pass rush skills than Floyd?

I would not mind bringing in Vic Beasley on a short contract. He would probably come at a cheap price tag too.

Its January 31st and you are already angsty about the Bears not filling the offensive line despite the draft and free agency both being on the horizon?

A year ago it was all about the inevitable trip to the Super Bowl. Now it’s come to this.

A free agent CB who was sought after by 9 other teams chose the Bears? Yeah, I like that it has come to this.

Nobody is allowed to comment on roster moves anymore, apparently.

Yeah I mean given the time of year, this is about the biggest move they can make.

Are we not allowed to comment about the comments? I just thought GD’s statement was somewhat amusing when read as what was clearly an optimistic view. It’s a battle between a backup who rarely played and showed nothing, a signee from the CFL and a guy from the practice squad.

No angst at all. This signing was fine. I just don't see it as being impactful in any way.

Is that what it is?

It's a battle with a guy coveted by 1/3 of the league, a third year player who has progressed from UDFA to roster player in two years on a top defense and a 7th rounder with raw but top end measurables.

I'm not going to pretend I'm an admirer of Tre Roberson's body of work. You take a similar lack of knowledge to mean he sucks. 10 teams wanted him. That's a good indication until I can see what he is with my own eyes.

My guy tells me that after Alexander's debacle in the NFC Championship, the Packers were in on him as well.

Again...he doesn't suck. I have no clue. I'll even add the fact that he's an ISU Redbird, so I like him.

That being said....he could play like Charles Woodson and the Bears would still be 8-8.

Based on past history with the Bears, I am angsty. As shitty as this team was last season, this team can really rebound IF they fix their offensive line and tight end short-comings. But they cannot be stupid. They need big, mean, tough, SOBS to block of the running backs and Mitch along with being a nice target for his passes. Come-on Pace, do the right thing 8) 8)
