They are very similar in size and playing style. ZIon is a better shooter.

I haven't seen Zion's ball handling or post-up moves or tenacious rebounding of Barkley yet. Zion is bigger too.

One things for sure.

Chuck or LJ didn’t have a 45” vertical.

Zion might be the freakiest of the freaks when it’s all said and done.

LJ won the dunk contest his rookie year.

Not at that size and in the end it probably doesn't matter anyway since athleticism and hops fade away around your late 20s. The key to Zion's longevity, as it is with most top prospects, is the extent to which he can develop core skills and add to his game each off-season. It's tough for me to buy into an undersized SF/PF whose claim to fame thus far is that he's unusually weighty and that he jumps high. So what. Let's see what he has in store for us beyond those things.

He’s already a Hall of Famer, so I think he’ll be fine.

Surely you take my statement in jest. Deep down - as a super cynical individual - I admire your optimism and hope.

People think he’s more athletic than a prime LeBron..?

Maybe. But I’d say it’s gotta be close.

I couldn't catch the game last night. Did I see 5/19 shooting? ouch.

He got taught a lesson in humility by the Bucks last night. I think they blocked his shot 4-5 times.

At one point Brook or Robin Lopez blocked his shot so bad he put Zion on his ass. Zion looked at Lopez with a look of surprise that I've never seen on Zion's face. You could see the wheels in his brain turning and almost hear his inner voice say to himself, "wait a second, I didn't think that was even possible against me"

I've seen all of Zion's minutes played this year and that was the first time I've seen that look of bewilderment on Zion's face. That was definitely his welcome to the NBA moment.

No worries though, Zion just needs to learn from this and adapt his game to include more thinking in his drives to the hoop rather than just assuming his athletic ability to allow him to rise above everybody else.

Won't matter. Too undersized to be in that class.

He's going to have to lose weight eventually. But, damn, he's an explosive player right now.

320 is a nice number, it’s only 100 away from 420

That's gonna be his downfall, too explosive for a 285 lb . His ligaments can't take it.

Who Lebron..? He’s 6’8 260 roughly isn’t he? Zion has 20 pounds on him while LBJ is taller.. they’re both very comparable as far as huge people with freakish athleticism. I’d say it’s odd that no one is really comparing them in this thread all things considered.

LBJ might be the most skilled player in history. Zion will never be that.

Possibly.. but from a size, speed, strength combo perspective I think theyre very good comps for one another. Was reading that LBJ was actually around 270-280 when he was with the Heat too, which is a little heavier than I had thought he ever was.

Again it's not a good comp physically and positionally. Like others have said Zion is closer physically to Larry Johnson, Barkley, etc. Undersized forwards who can still hang inside the paint a bit. LBJ is almost three inches taller than Zion and has like zero body fat on that massive frame. Longer wingspan etc. Zion is a classic tweener.

Sure it is. They are both great examples of freakishly large players who are freakishly athletic. That's the comparison, and its a good comp from that point.

Years from now, if a discussion comes up involving 'who were the most freakishly athletic guys to ever play in the NBA', LBJ and Zion will be front and center in that discussion. Its not even an uncommon topic right now. I'm not talking about how similar their playing style is, I'm talking about freakish athleticism.

I guess I don't agree that Zion is "freakishly large." He's got average length and he weighs a lot. Not exactly freakish. His athleticism is great, but that's not in dispute.

One thing I like when I see this kid play, especially the clip above, is it is almost old school. If old school was the 90's.
