Crede and Quentin- both voted on by the players. Dye is on the final vote ballot.

Really surrised there isn't one Sox pitcher. Danks, Floyd, and Linebrink have all star numbers for sure. Happy for Crede, but he is having anything but an all star year with the glove.

No AJ, but Jason Varitek with his .219 average is apparently worthy. I would have picked Quentin, Dye, and Linebrink.

Sox pitchers should be upset. Next to Oakland, this has been the best pitching staff in the league, and they have a few guys (Denks, Jenks, and Floyd) who really deserved it.

On another note, I'm happy for Joe Crede, and he does have good offensive numbers, but with 17 errors this season, I was a bit surprised he made the team.

I would much rather see our pitchers relaxing for three days.

Let the Northside meat heads celebrate whoever makes the All-Star Game.

I'm focused on late October personally.

Truth be told, I couldn't tell you who made the All-Star Game from the White Sox in 2005 - but I do remember who won the last series of the season: THE WHITE SOX BABY!!!

Agreed, but I think one of those guys will still be added once a few guys drop off the team.

seems to me here - in this thread at least, slick - that it's only Sox fans wondering why so-and-so didn't make it. No one brought up the Cubs at all. Maybe what Mr. Reason says is true "Slick's a prick"

Believe me Jason, it's the fucking gospel. The sun rises in the east, sets in the west and Slick's a prick.
It's the holy trinity, if you will, as it were.

Looking at the AL roster, it seems they went with the approach of taking the best pitcher for some clubs to get their one all star. Joakim Soria (KC), Roy Halladay (TOR), George Sherrill (BAL) and Justin Duchscherer (OAK) were 4 of the pitchers who made it as their team;s lone representative. There was only one hitter that was a lone team's all star and that was Carlos Guillen. They will have to replace Ortiz. The only questionable pick is Santana over Floyd. They have virtually similar numbers and they could have picked one over the other.

Jenks should have made it-but he's not 100% now anyway. Floyd and Danks were borderline. It is ridiculous that the Cubs got 7 into the All-Star game-Hell Theriot should have definitely made it too!!! But if Dye makes it, at least the Sox will have NEARLY half as many players representing their team/city. :P

Crede finally making it is very curious timing - and it fucks the Sox in their negotiations with him.

Anyone think Boras made a few phone calls on this one?

When I heard that Crede made it, the first thing I thought was, how much does Scott Boras love this ?

As much as Boras may love it, any team that is plunking down big money will not be able to avoid the glaring number of errors (17 so far) and the serious back surgery on a 30 year old.

Any GM who gives him more than 4 years should be fired. I'd be reluctant to give him more than 2 with automatic options for a third based on plate appearances.

I really don't know what the market for Crede is in terms of money. He certainly is not the type of guy you could confidently put in as a cleanup hitter.

I think he will get the kind of offers Andruw Jones got...good money but on a short term.

Floyd, Danks, Linebrink, Jenks; one of them should have gone. The Sox have the best ERA in all of baseball, and have basically been at or right near the top since early April. If nothing else, the guy who's caught them the most- AJ- should be there. You have the best pitching staff in the league and not one pitcher is an All Star. Thats a fucking joke.

While I'm happy for Carlos Quentin & Joe Crede, Jermaine Dye's omission and light-hitting Jason Varitek over A.J. Pierzynski as the backup catcher puzzle me in my opinion. Here's something else I don't get...4 Texas Rangers on the A.L. team? Are you kidding me? Yeah, I know Josh Hamilton got voted in by the fans, but Milton Bradley as the DH replacing David Ortiz...Gimme a break! With Ortiz out of the All-Star Game due to injury, and the Yankees' own Jason Giambi likely to win the online vote going on now at MLB.com, Jermaine and his stats should still go to the Bronx next Tuesday as an injury replacement. The time has come for Major League Baseball and "Commissioner" Allan H. Selig to wake up, smell the coffee and get rid of the "Every Team Should Be Represented" rule once and for all.

This same post could be applied to a Tampa Bay message board. I dont really care all that much about All Stars though. This seems like the type of meaningless thing Steve loves to brag about. I'm with the other guys here that Im glad the staff will get a break and hopefully it keeps a chip on their shoulder.

Text "A1" to 36197 as many times as possible to get Jermaine Dye into the All-Star game. Voting ends at 5pm EST

Yeah. I just read MLB.com. They said it's close. It's between Dye and Eva. Nobody else can get it.

I've punched a few votes on MLB.com.

Harry is gonna push this on MJH.

2 hours left. I'd like to see him get in but it's not the most important thing. I won't be angry if he doesn't get there.

It looks like the Rays' Evan Longoria is going to win the online "Final Vote" by a very slim margin, even though I voted over 25 times for Dye on MLB.com. Given the fact David Ortiz is out of the All-Star Game and the Rangers' Milton Bradley (?!) will be the starting DH in the "Midsummer Classic" in his place, I believe there's still a roster spot open. Terry Francona, do the right thing and add Jermaine to the A.L. team anyway! There is no excuse for 4 Texas Rangers and only 2 Chicago White Sox. That's where my problem is. I can understand if Ian Kinsler, Michael Young & Josh Hamilton made it with their respective body of work, but Milton Bradley? Gimme a break!

The Longoria thing smells like a conspiracy. There's no way there's that many Rays fans. Good to hear JD might still have a shot anyway.

All four Rangers players are hitting over .300 -- end of story.

No arguments on the Rangers.

Young is the highest hitting shortstop and while his numbers might not look impressive, he's the best hitting SS in the league right now.

Hamilton, Bradley and Kinsler are all having awesome years. Bradley's OPS is over 1.000, Hamilton has cooled off but has 91 RBI's in the first half. Kinsler as a 2B has 14 HRs. All three are among the best at their position.

It's very unfortunate that Jermaine Dye didn't get the "Final Vote" on MLB.com, because of the five candidates on the list, I felt his stats and body of work were All-Star worthy. As for Evan Longoria of the Rays, here's a guy who started his season in the minors, and many feel he should've been picked over Joe Crede among the reserves. Factually speaking, the 4 Texas Rangers who made the team are all hitting over .300, but Milton Bradley has seen limited action the last two games vs. Anaheim, due to left knee tendinitis. He went 0 for 1 as a pinch hitter last night in their 11-10 loss to the Angels in 11 innings. As Ed Farmer might say, "Bradley's like the rest of us, day to day." As for Dye, I wouldn't head back to the Arizona home seen on "MTV Cribs" just yet...
