No I had not. Very cool. Dude has some intensity. Guy gets to rock out for a living and while I'm sitting behind a desk doing credit write-ups.

I've found myself listening to more newer country-pop in the car since the XM 48 channel that used to have a lot of neo-soul and some good black female vocalists like Ledesi, Heather Headley, Algebra Blessett, etc has drifted in kind of a crappy direction over the last six months. A lot of the country is crap too, but between The Highway and CBC Country there are a few decent acts. Florida Georgia Line and Old Dominion are pleasant but I couldnt name any of their songs.

Another musician I play with mentioned Jeff Beck at Ronnie Scott's and at the Crossroads Festival in the mid-2000's due to the work of Vinnie Colaiuta on drums and Tal Wilkenfeld on bass...some great stuff there. Mostly pulling it up on Youtube and letting it play. I think Wilkenfeld was in her early 20's and she really shines with this group.

Speaking of Ronnie Scott's, I was fortunate to see a 14-person ad hoc group of British musicians play a Steely Dan cover set there in January. They were excellent, and the club itself is fantastic and evocative of what my parents used to talk about regarding Chicago 1960s clubs such as Mister Kelly's.

I have this DVD at the restaurant. It's worth seeking out if your a big Beck fan. There's a Clapton cameo (which kind of sucks TBH, just some clunky 3/4 blues riff), and some other singer who is really good. I don't think the bassist is even in her 20's there, but she is incedible. Very Jaco Pistorius-esque.

I looked at wikipedia, she was 21/22 at that point. I guess she came here at the age of 16, went to Musicians Institute and got recommended for the gig by Vinnie Colaiuta (played with him with Herbie Hancock as well). She's played with a number of heavy hitters in her career and hangs well with Beck.

Spiders (Kidsmoke) by Wilco.

I'm beginning to think A Ghost Is Born is a significantly underrated album.

I always thought of Ian Dury as a proto-punk Frank Zappa-type, the music has that noodle-iness to it. I recently saw "Sex and Drugs and Rock and Roll" on Hulu, Andy Serkis plays him. He's kind o a fascinating character. Very literary.

There's a lot I like about A Ghost Is Born, but it never reaches the highs of the previous albums, and I don't think the album was mixed/mastered very well. It sounds flat. "Hummingbird" shouldn't sound so leaden.

I like "Muzzle of Bees" and "Company In My Back" a lot.

I think the first time I heard Summerteeth was the spring of '05, so I always associate it with late March/early April transitional weather. Start with that one.

i've got my Spotify larger "liked songs" mix playing over my living room TV, so I can hear it from anywhere in the house. About 1300 songs, a lot of R&B, 70s rock, early 80s MTV artists from college, some jazz/pop and a little bit of newer stuff. Current song is Swing Out Sister's Twilight World. Don't hate me...
