After 6 seasons in the NFL, which of his stats leads you to believe he is a solid pick-up? The 72 receptions in 86 games?

Read the five points in the post a few above.

Blocking TE has been a glaring need for at least two years. Some metric had him as 9th best in the league last year

I’ve seen him play. Good athleticism and looks good on the field. Considering the cost I think it’s a good pickup.

Ryan, Why did you draft Adam Shaheen?

Now its official:

Chicago released wide receiver Taylor Gabriel and cornerback Prince Amukamara, NFL Network's Mike Garafolo reported.

The team later confirmed the roster moves.

Releasing Gabriel and Amukamara clears the Bears of $16.5 million in cap space while leaving them with just $3 million in dead cap, producing a net savings of $13.5 million. Chicago started Friday with all of $5.5 million in space, so the $13.5 million picked up Friday is akin to switching from snug-fitting dress slacks to sweatpants.

Cutting Long, Shaheen, Burton (may as well keep due to dead cap hit), and most intriguingly Floyd would give you a ton more cap space which you could use to fill needs at TE, OLB, SS, LT, and QB. Floyd is a tough call because his production does not merit the $13 plus million he will get this year. There is also a ton of dead cap space tied up at LT and RT, so you do not save much by cutting them, but they would be incredibly expensive backups. Will Pace cut a few more vets and go big into free agency, with the QB position in question this will be yet another franchise altering offseason.

Not big news, but Bears news nonetheless:

The Bears re-signed inside linebacker Devante Bond to a one-year extension, the team announced Saturday.

Chicago signed the former sixth-round pick out of Oklahoma back on Dec. 9. Bond appeared in three games for the Bears last season on special teams, where he recorded three tackles.

Bond started his career with the Buccaneers, where he appeared in 29 games with six starts in three seasons. He had 26 tackles and one tackle-for-loss.

Last season, Bond played in four games for Tampa Bay, where he had three tackles, before he was released on Oct. 15. Bond led the Buccaneers with 10 special-teams tackles.

The Bears are facing an uncertain future at inside linebacker with pending free agents Nick Kwiatkoski and Danny Trevathan, who could be on their way out of Chicago.

While Bond’s extension provides depth at the position — and locks up a valuable special teams asset — the Bears still have questions looming at inside linebacker heading into free agency.

Noteworthy or not, hearing Ryan Pace say this is a little interesting:

Feb 25. - Bears GM Ryan Pace said David Montgomery can be the team's "featured back" and "carry a heavier load" in 2020.

What's the hold up, it was very apparent that Prince, Shaheen, Floyd and Gabriel had to go.

On the latest Bear Download podcast from Dan Wiederer and Brad Biggs, they interviewed Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy from the NFL combine, and while much of what he said was just a rehashing of his press conference, he did drop one interesting nugget.

When asked about the offensive line he indicated that the plan is to keep Cody Whitehair at center with James Daniels staying at left guard.

Biggs was on M&H this morning and this is where you can tell he's towing the company line. Basically said the contracts for O-line in place make any major changes this year impossible. In essence he also blew over it said the bears will address WR, Corner, and maybe TE in the draft.

OK, Mr. Chicken wing in the mouth.....you clearly did not watch the offensive line AT all last year. Plain idiocy.

If that is true and they stay with that offensive line, next season should actually be canceled.

With as deep as WR is in the draft I wouldn’t be mad if one of the second round picks is used on a receiver who has fallen.

That is if the TE issue is handled through FA.

Also, I’m still #CONKLIN2020, but I am not wavering in my belief the Bears need to use a 2nd round pick on OT.

I'm almost ready to slap the bust tag on Daniels.

He's going into his third year. He was supposed to be the best or second best C in the draft. He hasn't mastered the complexities of C in the NFL and really seems soft to me at G.

I hope if they keep the two second rounders one of the is OL. That said supposedly the ND guy is supposed to be good as that is why we blocked NE from taking him of the practice squad. Also, i pray (and I know it is a long shot) that through new coaching, scheme and health they get closer to the year prior than last year.

I don't care how good the WR are in the draft.

for every play Mitch fails to see a wide open receiver, there's 10 plays that Mitch overthrows / underthrows while scrambling for his life.

This offensive line is complete shit.

There are plenty of examples of the terrible OLine scheme and play calling. This isn't necessarily caused by unskilled linemen.

Yes that is why my plan is #CONKILN2020, and drafting the best available OT in the draft with a 2nd round pick.

Bears have two second round picks very close together.

That being said, I would not spend a high-ish pick on a skill position. I would definitely go for best O-Lineman available.

The Bears have the 43rd and 50th picks.

Ideally, they draft the best available OT at 43.

IF the TE position is filled in FA, then I am not opposed to taking a WR who otherwise would have been a 1st round pick with the 50th pick.

This draft is ridiculously deep at WR.

It's impossible if the Bears don't want to eat any money.

With Massie and Leno, you have to cut one. You simply cannot run them out there for 14+ games again and expect to win. Cut one, eat the $, and make the other your backup swing tackle. Then draft Oline and get some UDFA Olinemen into camp.

OT/OT or OT/TE should be the two 2nd round picks.

I agree, bills. The Bears need to take the best Olineman available with their first pick. If that is Conklin, great. If he is GONE then they need to take the highest rated Olineman-- preferably OT-- on their board.

With the cap hits the Bears really can't cut both guys, although their play last season dictates they should.

I was of the mind to draft OL with both 2nd rounders, and then I discovered the greatness that is Jack Conklin.

Besides, the more I thought about it, the Chicago sports media would just make it awkward and weird if you drafted 2 guys that play the same position that close together. They would try to force a rivalry and competition from day one.
