I really would have never thought the axe would have fallen on Pablo's neck. He has been a good utility man off the bench for 4 years and seems to be an Ozzie favorite.

I assume the Sox could not get anything significant for Uribe and recognized his value backing up at 2B, 3B and SS. If I needed a single coming off the bench in the late innings I would probably want Pablo. Uribe is superior in just about every other facet of the game that is important to the role of a backup.

I don't think he ever recovered from the surgery he had last year and with the downturn in speed, Wise is actually a better fit right now off the bench.

Seems like every game he makes an error at 3rd base too.

Too bad, he was sure a nice player to have when he was 100% in 05 and 06

Wise is hot right now. I would expect the 29 year old career minor leaguer to return to form very quickly. It does not really matter as it is the difference between a 5th outfielder or infielder.

I hope Ozuna accepts the minor league assignment until KW has a chance to see if he can deal Uribe before the trade deadline.

At least there's still speed coming off the bench. Is Swisher gonna be in CF the majority of the time? I'm not too keen on that.

Funny. My dad and I were talking about the pending move that the Sox were gonna have to make.

I told him we should cut Ozuna.

It's the right move. People say he can play 3rd, short and 2nd. But guess what? He plays them all poorly. We've seen him make errors a lot this year on simple plays.

Can't have a utility guy that sucks at defense.

Uribe will backup at 3rd now. He's never played there but I'll bet he can be better than Ozuna.

Here is a thought: Come October, maybe Josh Fields makes the playoff roster over Uribe. For right now you leave Fields in the minors to get his ABs. Fields will be up for September call ups. I'll bet he's on the playoff roster.

Right now you need Uribe cuz he can back up 3 positions.

Then he would have to be brought up before the end of August, which is the cutoff for availability for playoff rosters.

On second thought, no. You can't go into the playoffs without a back up middle infielder in case a guy gets hurt. To much of a risk.

Dumb idea. Sorry.

I'm a little surprised that Pablo Ozuna was designated to be honest with you. I thought he had more value than Juan Uribe with the ability to play not just three infield positions, but occasionally in the outfield, too. Then again, I wonder if Pablo's lack of defense & speed since the ankle injury made him the most expendable in the eyes of White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen & GM Ken Williams. As for Uribe, while his batting average has been around .200 all season in very limited at best playing time, he had been playing good defense before the emergence of Alexei Ramirez at second. I think that's the real reason why Juan is still here, like it or not, and Pablo's likely going to be wearing a new uniform soon.

What does it matter that Ozuna can play the outfield if you have Wise and Anderson?

Uribe can play 2nd and short very well. Ozuna is a butcher.

It's the right move.

Dolphin said that he hopes Ozuna accepts a minor league assignment so Kenny can have more time to trade Uribe.

I don't think that's Kenny's plan. Uribe's defense was the factor on why he cut Ozuna.

This is what Kenny wants. You need a backup middle infielder that can play defense. Why would Kenny want to trade Uribe now? He's made his decision. Ozuna over Uribe. Ozuna will probably be scooped up by some team anyway.

This is the roster the Sox will go with for the playoffs. I really can't see any other trades being made. There isn't a better defensive backup out there over Uribe.

Wise and Anderson are the hitters off the bench. Wise is the late inning speed guy if we need a stolen base. Anderson is the late inning defensive replacement in the outfield.

That is a very good point. Ozuna only played the outfield sparingly each of the last 2 seasons, and wasn't that good when he started in left field vs. a tough lefty. His defense wasn't that good when he was in the lineup on the infield, and I think Uribe's glove work made Pablo expendable despite Juan's low BA.

Right now, as we speak, Joey Cora is hitting fungos to Uribe's fat ass at 3rd base. Learn it quick Juan. Crede will need some days off and that back might give him some problems.

You know what? Fields still might make that playoff roster. Think about it. You don't need all 5 of your starting pitchers. You only need 4. One of those guys will go to the bullpen so Fields might take the spot of Russell for the playoffs.

Jeez. Think about that. What pitcher won't be starting in the playoffs?

Right now the answer is Contreras.

Keeping El Duque on the playoff roster was worth it.

I know. You move Contreras to the bullpen for Russell. That's a no brainer.

I'm not sure Contrearas would work well out of the bullpen...but get back to me in September with that concern.

You'd only use him if a pitcher got rocked early or in extra innings.

The 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th are set for the Sox. Maybe you'd use him for one out in the 6th. Maybe.

You might have concerns about him in the pen but who would you trust more? Russell or Contreras. It really comes down to that.

He'd be perfect if you'd run through the pen and it went 16 or 17 innings.

Buehrle would shut them down again in the 14th my friends.

I think we're going off topic on this one, folks. Who said anything about Jose Contreras, Adam Russell and the bullpen?

Beardown did when he put Josh Fields on the playoff roster.

I'm assuming that there may have been at least mild interest in Uribe, and that the hang-up was that the White Sox probably refused to pay any his remaining $2.2 (roughly) salary due this season.

Pablo Ozuna was a popular guy among White Sox players, and I was reading in the Sun-Times today that Mt. Guillen erupted at his starting pitcher Jose Contreras last night, hours before his start last night in warm & humid Kauffman Stadium. Sun-Times writer Joe Cowley didn't exactly like Ozzie's explanation into why Pablo was the odd man out and why the light-hitting Juan Uribe is still on this ballclub...for the time being. The only thing I can figure is Uribe and his glove is better than Ozuna, even though Pablo has speed and can play more positions.

Pablo Ozuna rejected an outright assignment to Triple-A and was released by the White Sox on Wednesday.

Ozuna's glove cost him his job: the White Sox would prefer Juan Uribe as infield insurance. The Blue Jays were reportedly interested in Pablo, and he could find a team looking to add a versatile bench player that hits lefties very well.

Adios Pablo!

I can't say I'm surprised that Pablo said "no" to Triple "A" Charlotte. I think Ozuna will resurface somewhere real quick, and will probably get a lower number on his next uniform than #38. I'm just saying...

Will he be able to pitch in the 2nd half? His last 2 starts since they got rid of him have been really bad.

Jose Contreras is the #5 starter, according to the revived rotation Ozzie Guillen announced after #52's disasterous start Sunday afternoon in the 95 degree heat in Arlington, TX. Mark Buehrle gets the call Friday night vs. Kansas City at U.S. Cellular Field, followed by John Danks Saturday & Gavin Floyd Sunday. Javier Vazquez is penciled in for the first of three with Texas at "The Cell" Monday night with Jose going next Tuesday night at 7:11p. The last 2 pitchers, Vazquez & Contreras, need to step up and pitch much better in the second half of this season for the White Sox to maintain first place in the A.L. Central.
