It's a 1 year "prove it" deal that frees up cap space for the Bears and gives them a little insurance if/when Kwiatkowski walks.

I looked earlier for terms. Did you see it somewhere ?

I didn't just making an assumption

A poor one.

$14 million in new guaranteed money for a washed up bum. Hilarious.

I shouldn't have to tell a so called football fan that all guarantees aren't the same, BUT all guarantees are not the same. Plus, having a cap hit around $5M gives the Bears a lot of flexibility. Also their was no way that the Bears would have found a player who has his talent and leadership ability for that price on the open market. Great move by the Bears!

There's no other way to spin this my friend. You were wrong, and you just gave an aging, injury prone trash can $14 million in new guaranteed money despite his free agent backup being a better player currently. It is a great day indeed.

Hopefully, Pace is still focused on #CONKLIN2020.

You're wrong. You don't know what the guarantees are and only a Packers fan would believe that Trevathan is trash.

Great signing. Covid has made FF insane, or he's getting afraid of the sleeping Bear giant.

I do know what the guarantees are. Rappoport is pretty reliable

He's probably the single most expendable guy on your defense and you just gave him new money with limited cap space already available and many larger needs still out there. I get being a meatball but it's pretty tough to spin this as a great signing.

I'm teasing. It seems to be a curious move at best and completely unnecessary at worst. If they are able to restructure Floyd's deal, then ok maybe this makes a little more sense. Honestly I have lost almost all confidence in Pace, and I have very little left in Nagy.

Prince is probably the most expendable guy on D, but point taken. Trevathan may not have been at the top of the list, but he wasn't too far from it.

A guarantee isn't always a guarantee. It's sad that I have to explain this to you. It's also sad to see you complaining about us resigning a guy who would instantly be your best LB.

I hope this signing would indicate money isn’t being spent to resign Floyd.

An average OLB shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Does Cameron Wake have anything in the tank? If so, he would be a better version of Aaron Lynch if the price is right. Plenty of less costly alternatives to Floyd that would likely produce better numbers.

$14m is way too much guaranteed. The most important ability is availability and Trevathan cannot stay on the field anymore. I'd rather give Kwiatkowski the $20m or so he'll see than Trevathan $14m, but ideally this would become something they try and solve internally with KPL or Iggy. Bears are now an old defense, and in this league that can pay off because veteran defenders do have an understanding of the game (as it did with the Urlacher/Briggs/Tillman teams) but injuries can basically annihilate them.

This money should have gone to the offensive line.

Agreed. I don't like the signing. They better have a good backup ready.

I don't have an issue with the signing unless the $14M is fully guaranteed. If they still have the ability to cut him next season I'm fine with it

Their cap situation is simply not flexible enough to be paying guys one year deals at $14m. Its one thing to do this when its Mike Glennon and you're kinda swinging for the fences, that I understand. But a thirty year old linebacker who cannot make it through a season anymore?

This feels like the team taking care of one of their "guys" with a contract three or four times what he would've gotten on the open market.

We aren't talking about a Glennon situation. He likely has a cap number less than $6M for this season and his guaranteed money for next year is a roster bonus. If he isn't on the roster he won't get the money.

It does seem that the linebacker position occupies an inordinate amount of cap room. It does seem like they need to make a move on Floyd in order to reallocate resources. KPL looks to be a solid backup, Iggy looks like nothing more than a special teams player at this point. Kwiatkowski is a good downhill backer, but likely will get exposed in coverage if a full time starter, he makes perfect sense for the Packers who were terrible against the run last year.

Kwiatkoski was once a back-up/special teams player. Players can improve and get better.

Would rather have Kwiatkowski. He’s younger, knows the defense really well and is already familiar to his teammates as a starter. He’s improved more than I thought he would and it will be a mistake to let him walk in favor of the older Trevathan.. especially if the Packers grab him.

I don’t like this move tbh

I agree with you overall (for once) that this isn’t a great idea.. but he isn’t a shit player when he’s healthy. He’s a pretty damn good player when healthy. But.. he isn’t healthy much these days. I think this is a poor decision by Pace.

He’s fine. I think he’s always been a bit overrated but I’ve also always disliked him since the dirty hit on Adams so I’m a little more biased than normal when it comes to him.

I don't like the move. Seemed like too much money for a guy who gets hurt a lot.

Because of this new CBA it appears that the Bears can't guarantee (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky's 5th year because it would be fully guaranteed.
