Should that be the case, we'll have to go through this again right when those seasons are ramping back up.
The initial shutdown is designed to slow down the initial spike that would overwhelm hospitals and force them to turn away patients with Coronavirus and with other medical issues that would otherwise require hospitalization. It's impossible to give an exact date on that but it won't be a long term issue.

It won't be long term. China is slowly starting to return to a bit of normal after about 2 months.

With exponential transmission being the most likely means of spread, we're delaying the spike that will overwhelm the medical industry if we cancel the cancel in 6 weeks.
Time will tell, mate. For now, I doubt this will be a month of suspension. I could very well be wrong.

Hopefully it doesn't follow the 1919 flu. It was bad in the winter/spring then it went away for the summer, then came back with a vengeance in the fall.

Yeah, that's a big worry. Honestly I don't see why this won't be the case, it's pretty much how influenza works.

I’d like to think we’d have a vaccine by then.

I believe the vaccine is something like 12 months away even if they identify a vaccine today. Trials, certification and then production will take that long from what I've heard.

I read yesterday that a lab in Saskatchewan was already testing a vaccine on animals.

It's possible but that would mean that this was so bad that our seemingly extreme measures early on saved many lives.

I read that too. Sounds like if it's the real deal they're thinking mass quantity will be available in 12 months or thereabouts

Sanofi and Gilead are already conducting human clinical trials.

Maybe if chunks of us were able to get it and build up antibodies instead of closing down and canceling any gathering anywhere because #flattenthecurve.

Can you imagine how much worse things would've been on 9/11 if the internet and Twitter was as prevalent as it is today?

I thought about this. We would probably have better footage of Flight 93 being shot down and the rest.

We got the "Patriot Act" out of that.

We have governments outlawing gatherings today because of a bad flu.

this is what i think too. what the fuck is happening? what is so bad about this flu that qualifies an absolute declaration of war against freedom? there is definitely something they know that they arent telling us.

exactly. this is either a MASSIVE gross over reaction... or a doomsday virus that will kill everyone on command.

im not worried about this because the news, twitter or anything online. im worried because we have never shut down the entire country for weeks. ever. for anything. let alone a flu virus that isn't even 5% deadly. WHAT THE FUCK IS REALLY HAPPENING

i think it has more to do with incubation periods. the virus can live in the body for a month... so even if you magically find the right one within a few tests, its already been 6 months and then it takes a few months to ramp up production and distribute.

that said, we never found vaccines for flu viruses that we were 'scared' of 5 years ago. still. to this day. still dont have them.

and, they admit theres really nothing we can do to stop the transmission of COVID19. so again, why are we trying? what is really going on here?

You also have to remember why the flu of 1919 was so bad. The world had just gone through a long and nasty war. There was a lot of disease and famine in place. It did not help that the fucking Brits kept the Germans under blockade until around Jul. about 8 months after the end of the war. Add in the conditions on the western front with the trenches and the cesspools of disease there.
