Does Burton have guaranteed money left? They still can’t get out of that thing?

Graham and Burton on the field will be an absolute nightmare for defenses and the Bears will still have the flexibility to bring someone in new next year.

They should be great the 1-4 games they'll play together next year.

Does he play behind Burton as the receiving TE? If so that's a ton of money to pay for very little production. Kinda what happens when you whiff in the draft on a 2nd round TE, forced to overpay to fill a glaring need. Likely the end of the Adam Shaheen experiment soon to be followed by the end of the Mitch (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky experiment, nothing from first two picks in 2017 draft, that's they type of outcome that gets a GM fired and derails your team for years.

Ranking of NFC North TEs:

1. Kyle Rudolph
2. TJ Hockenson
3. Irv Smith Jr
4. Jesse James
5. Jace Sternberger
6. Trey Burton
7. JP Holtz
8. Jimmy Graham

Nas, even when Graham was the next best tight end in the NFL to Gronk he never wanted to block anyone. Now that he's literally more interested in being a helicopter pilot than NFL player do you think he's going to pick now, his age thirty-four season, to start taking that facet of the game seriously?

Graham cannot play the modern tight end position. Even if he was still good a receiver, which he's not, he doesn't fit at all with where the league has gone.

You would think a GM would've seen how maintaining the status quo worked out last off-season and would instead look to make some bold moves the add impact talent. To be doing the exact same things again as what didn't work last year is pretty infuriating.

And not surprising.

Pace is on his first and last team as an NFL GM.

In all seriousness he’s supposedly a pro’s pro and great locker room guy. Maybe he can give a Jason Heyward like speech at a critical time and earn the money.

I don't think he needs to block. He's a matchup nightmare for safeties and linebackers. He played with a QB who wouldn't throw him the ball unless he was wide open. Mitch will give him a chance to make plays just like he does with Robinson. What team is capable of covering Graham and Burton? None!

That’s fair. It’s a competitive cluster down there

Bears have a pile of tight ends. Sounds promising.

As odd as this move seems the TE group should be better than the smoldering pile of feces they brought to camp at the position last year. Looks unlikely they will use one of the second round picks at TE.

Graham can't outrun a Defensive Tackle these days. Even if finds a way to outrun a defender (highly unlikely), he's Kellen Davis 2.0 and will drop the ball.

Not trying to be a meatball but save the 9 million and let Holtz play. There is no way he is worse than Graham.
