They could still create cap space. They actually can go over the cap for a few months.

Re-work the contracts of Hicks/Fuller/Mack plus an extension to A-Rob

This is how you find a starting left tackle with a second round pick.

It's apparent they are in win-now mode; might as well go all in.

I hate that this is our current situation, but you are right when you say this.

a 31 year old O tackle actually might have utility for a couple of years too, oh well.

I hope he ends up in a better situation than Chicago. He’s a great player. Redskins absolutely fucked him over.

"Could" being the operative word.
They started the offseason with limited cap space as it was and they made moves without addressing the BIGGEST priority. It's highly unlikely they could make this work and this is definitely a type of player the Bears NEED.

Gonna be hard to significantly upgrade the LT position at this point, highly unlikely a second round pick will be able to step in week one and be a huge upgrade, but with Leno's play last year you really only need competency at the position for improvement, pretty similar to the QB position when you think about it.

Could Massie or Leno play guard?

I don't think it will take a 2nd round pick for a 31 year old who wants off his team and has been injured.

Someone please white board this for me and let me know how the Skins screwed him? Shitty coach and GM? They are gone now. Did not like rookie contract or an extension? Seems a loss to hold out more than one season.

Seem to remember the medical staff in Washington missed a pretty major medical issue he was having.

Have a feeling they will take a long look at Bars at G, he had a second round grade before he hurt his knee at ND, and they seemingly promised him something last season to keep him from signing with NE. Leno's footwork was terrible last year, not sure if he just had a bad year or if injuries/age have limited his mobility? Either would give them some much needed size inside unless Daniels has adopted the Hulk Hogan, "Say your prayers and take your vitamins", routine and has added size/strength. Salary cap/draft capital limitations have forced them into a patchwork approach on the OL, could be dangerous given Foles injury history.

Bars is going to be the started at guard and I am absolutely fine with it. They've spent a couple years rehabbing him and developing him now they want to see what they've got this, trusting him at guard is no different than trust a top one-hundred draft pick. When Belichick comes hunting for an offensive lineman its not by accident.

Trent Williams was, for a time, arguably the best offensive lineman in the NFL. He was certainly among the best. Guy is an elite talent at a premium position, I know he's a damaged goods which is why he's even available for anything less than a boatload of picks.

Miami got two firsts for Laremy Tunsil, a player that was never even nearly as good as Trent Williams.

I hope you are right because it's obvious that this is exactly how the Bears look at him.

When Foles is playing well he hangs in the pocket until the last second waiting that extra tick for he second or third look to break open, the exact opposite of Mitch who gets happy feet and leaks out when his first read is covered. Foles will never have time to step up in the pocket if Leno is the turn style he was last year, how many times in the playoff game did Peters hold off Mack just long enough for Foles to make a play. That said, Bears will either have to always give Leno help, or severely limit what they call based on Leno's inability to hold the edge for 5-7 step drops. The best case scenario is that Foles runs the base offense sets much better than Mitch, recognizes and is accurate enough to take advantage of the quick 3-5 yard completions Nagy's offense should afford, and then hits the downfield passes Mitch misses when the D sits on the short passing routes.

Absolutely. ANd they should have known this was going to happen last year and planned accordingly. He is so much a better player that Leno that it is unbelieveable

Leno could not. He can't knock anyone down or push them out of the way. He's terrible at the point of attack.

While Foles will hang in the pocket until the last second he sure as hell is not mobile worth a lick.

This isn’t a guarantee of success tho. The list of guys Bill has sought out and done nothing with is longer than almost anyone else. Hicks is a good example of a talented guy Bill grabbed and didn’t do much with. The list is even longer with guys who didn’t turn out to be good tho.

Billy B is much better at identifying talent that will work for him than he is at identifying ‘talent’ -and that’s part of what makes his teams so great. It’s also why many players that leave the Pats ‘system’ don’t make much noise elsewhere.
