New Pearl Jam...2nd time through today...I like it. Probably some of their best work since the late 90's

I picked it up yesterday. No real show stoppers, but a very even effort with few lyrical clunkers. Superblood Wolfmoon, Quick Escape, and Comes Then Goes stand out for me.

Hussra just blew my mind. I scroll right past any post with just a YT link and no context. Let's get on board with this format, people!

Exile on Main St and Sticky Fingers.

I dismissed Charlie Watts' drumming years ago . What a fool I was.

I am really digging Post Modern Jukebox. Interesting takes on a lot of modern songs. As usual when a Queen song is done in a lush orchestral setting it really shines.

Gave Pearl Jam's latest a listen. Fairly unremarkable. I really dig Vedder's voice when the music gives him a chance to stretch it out, like on one of the acoustic tunes.

Matt Cameron is a fine drummer, but to me he feels like a session player in PJ. Always preferred the greasy feel of Jack Irons. Thought he was the perfect fit.

Very simple beat, but dynamically...he's killin' it.

I've never even considered this with Charlie, but you are 100% correct. I always used Phil Rudd as my example of doing simple really powerful and well.

I always got blasted as my stones album list goes 1. Exile 2. Some Girls 3. Sticky Fingers. I'm thinking Charlie has a lot to do with Some Girls ranked at 2.

"Moonlight Mile" is Charlie at his best.

Yep, this is really good. Lots of Tom Waits influence here.

I set it to a Material Issue station and have been very happy with the mix.

Any Gin Blossoms on there? Replacements : Goo Goo Dolls :: Material Issue : Gin Blossoms, in my opinion.

Some...Incredibly, besides power pop, it picks up a lot of Cure and New Wave stuff.

I hate to ask, but I am having trouble with this analogy. As in, I only really know the GGD popular stuff, so is it the GGD are a saccharine Replacements (splenda?) as Gin Blossoms are a saccharine approximation of MI? Anywho, I think Soul Asylum could be interchangeable with GGD there.

You're pretty much hitting my band's (intended) set list. 90's Pop rock. Startig with Material Issue, which sadly isn't as recognizable as they should be.....What Girls Want, Diane.....now come the others:

Hey Jealousy, Mrs. Rita, Somebody To Shove, Slide, 3 AM, Real World, All For You, Closer To Free, Mr. Jones, Hey Leonardo, I Alone, Cumbersome, Inside Out, Sister Havana, Girlfriend, Laid, Good (Better Than Ezra).

I have trouble extricating bands like Material Issue from being local scene bands when I was growing up. (plus that fucking drummer hit on practically every good looking girl I knew, always unsuccessfully, but knock on 1,000 doors, right?) I can't place them in any proper context. You guys should do "Kim the Waitress," I'm sure there is an effect that can mimic the sitar.
