Their options are having a weak nuclear arsenal or finding themselves in a Cold War-style arms race catching up with the USA. The prudent solution for decades has been for to maintain a nuclear deterrent without appearing menacing. That strategy has worked very well, they still bully and intimidate their neighbours but in the USA and Europe they really have not appeared a threat to world peace.

There are people in the DOD who have surmised, knowing obviously way more than any of us do, that China may have followed this strategy so far that they no longer have a credible nuclear deterrent. That's a weakness the USA could exploit, but its also a dangerous game to play.

Right now the real game is to stop China's little divide-and-conquer tactic with Europe, which already is going so poorly there's not much the USA needs to do. You'll notice Trump has stopped his bluster, he calls it corona again. I suspect that is a purposeful switch he has been told to make by the DOD and intelligence apparatus. No need to give China the opportunity to play off Trump's unpopularity in Europe, especially with what is going on in Spain and the Netherlands. High ranking EU diplomats are no publicly telling China to fuck off with their relief efforts, the USA is hoping that catches on in the member states

I just saw how the WHO spokesperson has also refused to report on the great success that Taiwan has had in fighting the Virus and would not answer any questions regarding why the WHO hasn't paid any attention to WHY Taiwan has been successful and has rather continued to praise CHINA unrelentingly or their dealing with the China flu. Of course, the reason WHY Taiwan has been successful has been that they were the FIRST COUNTRY to block travelers from CHina into their country, three days I believe, before Trump shut them out. There is no doubt in my mind that China would have used this virus as a weapon and would have loved to infect Taiwan in an effort to make their conquest easier.

Well only the UK is in with Huawei at the moment. France and Germany were on the verge of doing the same but all this has happened.
