forget that

I want the White Sox to be playing their World Series in Chicago

How is that compensation anyway? 4-7 World Series games will bring in more revenue than an all star game and its associated events

I'm sure it about a WS in good weather and not compensation. I mean maybe they could get a Milwaukee-Seattle dome WS or a Texas-Atlanta one, but why chance it.

I do kinda like the neutral site WS idea...especially if it's in mid to late November.

Maybe hold it in multiple neutral sites. It'd be cool if a domed stadium like Milwaukee had some games. Maybe 3 sites, 2 games in Mke, 2 games in Texas, 3 games in LA.

A barnstorming world series could be cool. 7 games 7 different venues over 2 weeks.

Dang, imagine the Dodgers being in the WS and having all the games at home

Stupid. Make Memorial Day opening weekend, cut out the games missed and the final 3-4 in September, do the playoffs as is. If they have to play the first 8-10 home games without fans, so be it. Expand the rosters to 30 for the first month of the season, but only allow 25 active on game day.

A neutral site World Series is stupider than having the AS game determine the home field advantage.

If it wasn't for the threat of hurricanes, they could have the WS at Miami, since the Marlins have no fucking chance.

They should play the NL playoffs at AL sites, and AL playoffs at NL sites.

MLB "owes" the Dodgers for the Astros mess. If they make the WS, whatever. Have every playoff series at a neutral warm weather/dome park. Make it like CFB bowl games.

San Diego, Anaheim, LA, Arizona, Texas, Houston (hah), Milwaukee, Toronto, Tampa, Miami. More than enough. Give Milwaukee and Toronto a Division Series each.

With no travel, they could play 7 straight days and skip the endless days off in the playoffs that put more emphasis on relief pitching.

This seems.....extremely difficult to pull off. Almost impossible.

The stadiums and lodging seem plausible, no question. Lots of empty spring training stadiums, plus Diamondbacks stadium, plus ASU and GCU stadiums, etc.
And all of the resorts are empty, plenty of space and they’d gladly take the business.

I do not know how they can effectively isolate not only the thousands of players/coaches during the down time, but then umpires, media, transportation employees, security members, resort staff, and on and on and....

Just the number of quick-result tests they would need daily for all of those people seems impossible.

Same.

Every available game would be appointment viewing.

I love the possibility of having an electronic strike zone and microphones on players.

The social distancing between players and coaches in the stands seems bizarre but I guess would have to be done?

4 1/2 months away from your family is tough. A lot of money on the table though.

I was reading I love you's Cubs blog post about this yesterday and he said August would be the earliest for this so I closed the page. Its pretty damn obvious that May would be the goal for something like this and then hopefully they can transition back to their home stadiums with fans in August. There should be a better Cubs blog out there but for whatever reason there isn't and I have to sort through that guys crap all the time.

This sounds like a great plan. Wish that the NBA would have tried something like this at a couple hotels in Vegas. It will inevitably get messy though with the flying in of families (and groupies), but some people are going to inevitably test positive. But it's not exactly a death sentence.

Nobody cares about the NBA.

Even if this doesn't happen in the exact way and timeframe its laid out, its still a good sign in that MLB wants a season. I don't like the double header idea. Just play a 90 or 100 game season as usual. Hopefully some sort of season starts sooner rather than later.

I'm also glad they're trying to do SOMETHING. Reality is.....they can't really come up with anything until there's decision from the state Governments on businesses and workplaces resuming.

That is why AZ makes the most sense. For reasons spany laid out, but also because they have a relative smaller number of cases and less than 100 deaths so far.

I love the idea and it does make the most sense as far as getting them on the field in the fastest and safest way possible. However, money will screw this up. When gov fat fuck gets done stroking it to replays of his press conferences he is going to throw and absolute tantrum over all the lost tax revenue. He won't be the only one. The owners are going to feel massive heat from their respective states and this will turn into a giant mess. Maybe for the time being they will agree that each state will get the money from their team(s) only. Currently they tax both the home and visiting teams in the state that the game is played.

This is working with WWE because Vince controls everything. I hope all parties can come to an agreement to get guys on the field but no one seems capable of working with each other for the common good.

I'd watch as many games as possible.

This fellow disagrees. He doesn't even sound like a baseball fan:

Some Guy from Cincinnata wrote:
Is Baseball really this important?

ESPN.com’s Jeff Passan writes today of a plan being considered by MLB to begin playing games again next month. It’s optimistic, hopeful and exciting. Also, crazy, troublesome and reckless. Passan:

Major League Baseball and its players are increasingly focused on a plan that could allow them to start the season as early as May and has the support of high-ranking federal public health officials who believe the league can safely operate amid the coronavirus pandemic, sources told ESPN.

Though the plan has a number of potential stumbling blocks, it has emerged above other options as the likeliest to work and has been embraced by MLB and MLB Players Association leadership, who are buoyed by the possibility of baseball's return and the backing of federal officials, sources said.

Playing baseball as the virus is peaking in some places and just starting to level off in others seems frivolous at best and dangerous at worst. And yet, it would provide a litmus for our ability to manage vigilantly a raging plague. Could we do it?

We can’t even get 50 governors to shut down their states. We have selfish kids partying on Clearwater Beach and in Over the Rhine and Louisville.

What say you?

If you read Passan’s piece, it sounds as if Baseball is establishing a colony on Mars.

No fans. No mound visits. Electronic strike zones, to eliminate violations of social distancing. Players sitting six feet apart, in the stands.

Players living in hotels, quarantined bubbles, with the possibility of not seeing their families for four and a half months if the virus doesn’t allow games in home parks.

The plan would require special treatment for players, coaches etc. That means testing. Can you imagine needing a test and being unable to get one, while baseball players have them at the ready?

Passan: Most important would be a significant increase in available coronavirus tests with a quick turnaround time, which sources familiar with the plan believe will happen by early May and allow MLB's testing to not diminish access for the general public.

Bullspit. Has anyone seen any indication that tests will be available en masse to you and me by May? I haven’t.

What’s the message being sent? It depends on your level of optimism or cooperation. It says, “Look, baseball’s back! These guys are OK, we must be OK. Social distancing is for snowflakes.’’ Or, maybe you resent the hell out of MLB. They’re playing a game for millions of dollars while I’m unemployed and can’t even get tested? Is this what we want?

There is hope among leadership on both sides that the combination of receiving paychecks for playing and baseball's return offering a respite to a nation beset by the devastation of COVID-19 would convince players to agree to the plan, sources said.

Accent on the former. If Baseball were genuinely concerned with the public’s well being, it wouldn’t even ponder resuming in the middle of the pandemic. Period. No other sport has even considered it.

Worse, Baseball is saying it won’t shut down if someone in the game tests positive. It’d just expand rosters and chuck the sick guy into quarantine. Next man up. Passan:

“Officials do not believe that a positive test alone would necessarily because to quarantine an entire team or shut down the season, sources said. The plan could include teams carrying significantly expanded rosters to account for the possibility of players testing positive.’’

As we’ve learned, people can carry the virus for days, even weeks, and not show symptoms.

This isn’t a smart move. It’s too Out There even to be seen as hopeful.

South Korea, which had first case of the virus on the same day the U.S. did, is doing much better than we are, because it was aggressively proactive in fighting the disease. Its pro baseball league will open its season April 20. If anyone connected to the Korean Baseball Organization gets sick, they shut down the whole deal. That sounds a whole lot more responsible than what MLB is pondering.

I miss baseball a lot. I miss what it represents. Spring, summer, normalcy. I’m not OK with this idea. Get back to me in July.

This plan is pretty stupid, but it's basically MLB laying the groundwork to eventually say "Yeah, people are going to get it and we will deal with it" in early May.
