And yeah, it certainly means Bernstein solo. They're not gonna hire a replacement. McKnight said his position was eliminated. Maybe later they give Bernstein another partner. But nobody is hiring right now.

Or they will go 10-2 with Bernstein and LoHo since there's no day Cubs games. Start whoever is left in the morning at 6:30 because nobody the hell is driving to work.

Mac alluded to something about April 1st either late last week or early this week. My guess is that Entercom made the decisions yesterday.

A lot of sales, promotions, and digital staff for sure -- I would be surprised if we hear anything more about on-air at The Score, at least right now, besides producers.

I could see one host + one/two producers per show becoming the norm.

That's true. They might as well make Larry go longer with Bernstein.

I think the afternoon and morning shows will remain intact though as 2 man shows.

Yep. Theoretically I'm good through the end of the year because revenues are already allocated by my clients. But there is probably no way I survive 2021 with my current employer, even at my current part time role I voluntarily cut back to when I bought my house here in NC. I survived the market crash and the post 9/11 slump, but if there's even a 10% cut in revenues most of my clients can't justify doing more than the minimum.

Our early returns in my line of insurance is that we are retaining more accounts at higher rates (means competitors are scared to quote, most likely). The rate increases are not new because we were raising rates throughout 2019 as well due to higher industry losses. We are still seeing solid new business flow too.

Our line will face claims as people lose their jobs and companies don’t pay creditors. That’s the bad news. But companies would be crazy not to buy given that sad fact of corporate financial problems.

And then you gotta think about guys like Zaidman and Shuster. They're the pre and post game host for Cubs and Bulls. They don't have shit to do. They would work part time at the SCORE. But the pre and post was their main gig. They're not getting paid now.

Man, the station has a chance to clean house, and get a clean start. They could cut lots of dead weight. Julie and Conor was a long time coming. Bernstein would be a good cut, and they would save lots of money. Axing the morning show would be great.

True. I also agree with an above post that it might be down to three shows in the main dayparts, especially with fewer people in their cars in the mornings. Mully and Haugh 6-10, Bernstein and Holmes 10-2, Mac and Parkins 2-6. Two producers each show.

Yes I think he stays on. I believe Jon Greenberg in a recent Athletic story broke the news that Spiegs is currently getting paid per show...

Spiegel is either done with his contract or has a year left.

The more I think about it the more having 4 hosts each go solo for 3 hours weekdays from 6-6 makes sense. Let 6-9pm be a replay of some sort in ESPN Classic style - buy some stuff from Westwood One for example. Either run CBS overnight or let Les run overnight if he wants to broker the time. Or give Les all of Sunday afternoon.

The Shuster, Levines etc can each take a 4 hour weekend shift. A lot of those guys are older and hopefully have socked enough away and just need to cover basic expenses.

Had a feeling it was just about over for McDoink one way or another, didn't think it would be as part of a company-wide bloodbath because a bat flu paralyzed the economy. I don't know why deCastro was so enamored of him, especially in a partnership with Bernstein. Shitty day for the industry. I'm sure he'll land on his feet.

I am glad he is not going to be on the radio, but I do feel bad for him. He seems like a really nice guy, just not very entertaining. But no dancing on his grave like July. Stay safe McDoink!

Did Lil Danny throw any bouquets at management for having the courage to lay these people off today ?

McDoink didnt have the chops to stand up to Bernsie. He just morphed into a Bernsie parrot.

Yeah, similar feelings. For example if I had a marketing assistant slot open, I'd hire him. He can speak well enough to deal with colleagues at other businesses, he has at least two thirds of a brain cell working, and he is used to a commute to the Loop. Nobody would be asking him to be fascinating or funny, and he would be away from Bernstein.

Weren’t a lot of a Score hosts / producers more than a little giddy when North and the others were scammed and Webio folded ?

Bernstein keeps surviving these house cleanings by accepting "voluntary" pay cuts? I would've assume management would want to cut the expensive liabilities rather than the people who'd work for cheap

Not outside of Team Bernstein. I don't remember Mully, Hanley, Murph, Doug, or Paruch running any victory laps.

I'm using that as a fucking example of a job not in broadcasting, not an actual hiring opportunity.

But I wouldn't hire Matty or Julie for example.

The problem with hiring Matty is that your billing goes up but your secretary gets pregnant.
