Many rumors the Ryder Cup would be postponed but from what I can tell it’s still on. I think it’s a bit premature to cancel an event 6 months away

British Open cancelled. Ugh. Not having good feelings they will play the Ryder Cup this year.

The British Open cancellation was an insurance policy thing. They were up against a deadline.

The R&A is saying this is not true, it is not cancelled yet.

I'm surprised they would go with cancel, rather than postponed for the time being.

If they play the Ryder Cup, they are going to have to have MANY Captain's Picks as tournaments to get qualifying points will be few and far between.

Scott Van Pelt said it was happening and I usually take his word as bond. Glad there is still a chance it’s played.

There is going to be 4 majors and a Ryder Cup in about a 20 week span.

The (British) Open

GONE :(

https://www.golfchannel.com/news/ra-can ... olf1305000

Quote:
The Open is officially canceled.

The R&A announced Monday that the oldest major championship in golf, scheduled for July 16-19, will not be played at all in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the Masters and PGA Championship were both postponed last month in response to the growing outbreak, The Open is the first major to be canceled since 1945 when all but the PGA Championship were called off because of World War II.

This is the 13th time that The Open has not been contested since the tournament began in 1860. All but one of those previous cancellations were attributed to either World War I or World War II.

While there won't be an Open this summer, host course Royal St. George's won't be left behind. Slumbers confirmed that the 2021 Open will be held on the Sandwich links, 10 years after Darren Clarke's victory. The 150th Open will still take place at St. Andrews as expected, albeit now in 2022 instead of 2021.

It's Masters week! Oh, wait...

I won't get to wear my Masters tie this year. :(

I’m still going to enjoy the festivities this week and replays of some classic final rounds.

Me too. I'm also going to look at ticket if this thing happens in November. I imagine between cooler weather and older people who are at risk, there stands a chance to be more tickets on the secondary market, thus lower pricing.

Would anyone be surprised if they were able to pull off growing azaleas in November?

Let alone harvesting the pimento cheese so far out of season.

This is somewhat amusing. Peyton giving Brady the business. The best though is Phil having the picture of Tiger putting the green jacket on him behind him.

Pro golfers in shorts. Heaven forbid the PGA Tour lets the guys dress comfortably. And range finders. Easy way to speed up the pace on tour.

I don't understand why they didn't let them take carts though.

Probably just to have the network be able to televise a longer round of golf. More opportunities for commercials in between shots if they are walking.

It’s been mostly interesting. Maybe they will start playing a bit better. Enjoying the course.
