I never said I enjoyed it. I'm sure the children being raped didn't enjoy it either.

They could do more topics to get people interested in calling in. A lot of the hosts don't let the callers talk much. They get two sentences and then click.

The social justice warrior nature of the station is also a turnoff. Boers and Bernstein went from a goofy show to "We hate the Penn State child rapists" for quite a long time. While it was an important issue in sports, it didn't have much to do with Chicago sports and it was total "change the station" radio. The problem with going full politics on the sports station is that 90+ percent of sports writers and sports talk show hosts are total liberals. Liberal sports talk radio is a turnoff for people who just want to listen to people talk about sports.

The Score and ESPN 1000 have the problem of basically having the same hosts for years on end. There should be new voices who can do sports talk radio other than Mac, Dan Bernstein, Mike Mulligan and Laurence Holmes. It's pretty sad when Mike North is still better than several hosts on the station.

Ultimately managing a radio station is hard work because it's hard to shuffle the deck. WGN Radio dumped a lot of hosts in the last ten years or so and it's hardly the same station. There's always a tendency to hire old hosts because the feeling is that the old hosts are a known quantity.

From an etymological point of view, it always cracks me up when the SJW moniker gets misused. It does not mean “liberal” nor is it shorthand for “a POV I don’t agree with.”

Exactly. What more do you want him to do?

The Score should have a panel discussion about black crime before they fold up.

I'm confused as to what is political about children

They pretended that they were some sort of authority on child abuse. It's not very different than when Julie DiCaro would go on one of her social justice warrior rants about Colin Kapernick. The point is not specifically that child abuse is a right/left issue. The issue is that it's a politics/non-politics discussion.

Being against people fucking children is a political discussion?

It was the main discussion point of their show for over a year....EVERY DAY.
And yes.....Dan became an expert on Child Psychology, Law Enforcement, and an Attorney all within that year.

It was awful radio. Yes it was a story. Yes they should have covered it. Glad you enjoyed hearing about it forever....MANY did not.

Penn St. was the death knell of the B&B show. That time period burnt me out on the score and I did not come back until Danny Mac returned to the station. I apologize that Danny B. ended up in sports talk and not some sort of more important media but it was a bit embarrasing watching him go balls deep on that story day after day in some fruitless attempt to raise his national profile. Just the worst.

$100,000 invested in Entercom 5 years ago is now worth $5,900.

Fun fact, but at Entercom's market cap, Barstool is worth over 4x what Entercom is.

They get plenty of callers the day after Bears games.

You face of the station openly stated that he hated those days.

But remember, he loves his listeners and appreciates their patronage...tears...sniff.

Ironically....the BEST person on the station at taking phone calls is the one who isn't a full time host...that's Hub. He can be arrogant and condescending, but I have always given him credit for being a good football analyst and I give him credit for still being caller-centric.

When Mac proclaimed Parkins "the voice of the Score", he issued the station a death sentence. The Scores demise was now a certainly.

It would seem that the very name of the industry, sports talk, would indicate a need for...well...talk, and not just talk between hosts/producers, but different voices with different opinions. There seems there was a concerted effort to get away from listener calls and move to banter between hosts and producers at some point during the stations existence, in doing that they lost much of what made them unique and local. There were also times during the Bernstein and Goff show where they would tell people to stop listening, if I'm thinking about advertising and I hear a host tell people to stop listening, I'm not buying time on that outlet.

Radio stations should realize they are mostly replaceable by podcasts with little to no commercials. Other than rights to sports broadcasts and taking phone calls there is very little that a podcast can't replace.

Can't even rely on the old, "Heavenly Bodies" commercials you used to hear every break. Heard a Sally Beauty Supply commercial on the podcast the other day, maybe there has been an influx of female listeners?

It would be funny if the number of women listeners increases after Julie is shown the door (and then falls down the stairs).

The pepto bismol commercials that had the jingle that ended in “diarrhea” were rivaling the Kars for Kids in annoyance level.

There has to be a point where they either decide to let more local talent go and maybe do one local show per day with national stuff filling out the rest of the schedule.

Not to mention his partner who hated spending 3 hours a week watching football. Boers and Bernstein toward the end of their partnership had a real contempt for the average listener.

In hindsight the Score brass has to be kicking themselves for re-upping Parkins. Should've listened to me.

That was one of the weirdest “things” I ever remember. To openly despise, show disdain and actively tell your customers to go away.

I am surprised how many people want to hear callers. 25% contribute something useful, 25% either repeat something already said or schmooze the hosts and 50% are just a boring waste of time. Callers have about the same hit-rate as athletes. Conversations between the hosts and interviews with media members both locally and out-of-town is what I primarily want to hear.
