Hit the Desplaines river again yesterday. used a few different soft lures and spinnerbait. no luck again. But did run into some odd old-timer back in the brush. he claims the river is loaded with northerns and he catches them all the time. one that day and two the day before. was a beautiful day anyway.

our spot had dried up for a period of time. it will get hot again as it gets colder and the local yokles stop hitting it.

i called dnr on a guy who said he's been coming in the morning getting a limit, then coming and getting another limit in the afternoon. he's a regular down there who has been explained the rules time and time again. everyone is sick of his shit. he acts all confused when you tell him thats illegal like he doesn't understand what you are saying.

ahh community hole fishing. gotta love it.

As smallies are such great fighters that must have been something. I caught about a 4.5 in Canada. Was a blast.

It really didn’t fight that much more than a 5 lber. I’ve got a special spot in northern Michigan where I caught the 6.6, a dozen or so 5s, and many, many 4s over the years. I like fishing Door Co more but I catch bigger smallmouth in Michigan.

Yes, fishing is open. DNR properties are closed so the state parks and DNR boat launches are closed but other lakes and rivers are open. Cook County Forest Preserves are open but Will County is closed. Any place in particular you are looking to fish?

I guess just the Des Plaines River / forest preserve. Maybe Fox River. Kind of wishing i had bought that canoe I wanted. leisure actvities are few and far between.

I am not sure about those access points since I am a southside guy and don't fish those rivers. If it is a Cook County Forest Preserve then it should be open. Not sure about Dupage County. Every CCFP parking lot I have gone to has been open.

Got out to Braidwood yesterday and had a good day. Caught a bunch of small bass and then some bigger ones at the end of the day. Caught a big catfish- 15 lbs or so. That was fun on light spinning gear and 6 lb line. Spring is coming....

Caught my personal best largemouth on Monday in a central Illinois lake. It weighed 6.18 lbs. I had fished all day and it was s l o w. Hit a shoreline I had done well on in the past and caught a few fish. Decided to make one last pass before leaving and am very glad I did. My bait was hung up and when I unsnagged my lure, the fish hit instantly. I was using light line and the fish wrapped my line around my trolling motor. I knew it was big but not that big. I had to raise my motor to unwrap the line and it was still surprisingly hooked. Landing this fish makes up for several fish I have lost this spring including a big bass in a tournament that was a couple feet from the net.
