Wisconsin governor made comments earlier this week foreshadowing the idea of tacking on a few more weeks to the Stay at Home order and even dangling a possible additional month. I think a lot will depend on if some of the Great Lakes or Midwest states form some kind of coalition to reopen and try to coordinate together. All it meant to me was that golf opening sounded more unlikely because we haven’t hit the top of the curve yet.

I saw a guy walking through downtown Winfield today carrying a set of golf clubs. He wasn't anywhere near a course, or even a park to hit a few balls.

I hope that's a trend.

Got first tee times next Fri, Sat, Sun. Now just need the weather to work out. Stay at home order extended to May 26th so I may be golfing 4-5 days a week

I considered swerving on to the sidewalk, but there was a guardrail blocking me.

$13 to walk. Seems like kind of a dog track and its a bit of a drive (Crown Point, IN), but I think I'm gonna give this a shot tomorrow.
Going back to this same goat ranch Saturday at 10am. Palmira and the better courses in the area were all full. Given the iffy weather (low 50s and chance of rain), I'd rather pay the $15 to walk here than a nicer course.

Hopefully IL follows Wisconsin's lead and opens up their courses soon, or I will be playing a couple more rounds in Indiana during May.

Pritzker was just asked about golf courses and he really didn't give an answer. Said "we're looking at everything and I understand summer is different"

MANY in the golf industry seem to think IL will open Courses by May 1st.

I’ll be shining up the clubs and getting the bag cleaned out today. Ready for three days of golf in a row. Wish the weather was a bit warmer but oh well. No carts allowed. No flags in the cup and cups raised. Not exactly sure how they will mark where the pin is. Likely an electrical flag stuck in the green. Right now they have regular tee times every 8 minutes but they have blocked off an empty spot every fourth time Slot to spread things out. Hoping to make up for lost time the next few weeks as long as I continue to have a flexible schedule away from the office. Will be easy for me to play a round and still work a full day during the week when I don’t have meetings.

Also decided I am going to buy equipment and supplies needed to replace my own grips in my basement workshop. Not sure why I’ve shied away from it all these years. I need to put a mid size on my 2 iron and a new super stroke on the new Bullseye.

Fingers crossed. I'll be out there May 3rd if thats the case.

When I golfed in Indiana TBone, they still had the flags but had the cups about 2" above the ground. Hit the cup, putt is holed out. There was no reason to touch the flag. Nobody in my group did, and I didn't see anybody else doing so either.

I guess they don’t see the need to even chance it. People usually tend to do what they know so I could see people touching it inadvertently for some reason.

Forgive me please... A raised cup is more of a dimple that rolls in and out just so you know it was good without digging it out? Wouldn't a lip in stay in?

What?

When I played it was pretty easy to tell if a putt was center cut and would drop, or if it had just grazed the side and would likely not have dropped. I had at least two putts that hit the cup, but I wrote down and extra stroke because I was pretty sure they would not have dropped.

If you were playing for money or something, I doubt you could leave it to chance. It would have to be all or nothing where if you touch the cup, its a holed putt regardless of speed or where the ball hit, etc.

My course has a styrofoam pool noodle in the hole and surrounding the pin. That way the putt is actually holed but you can still remove your ball with touching anything. It goes about half way down.

That certainly would be better, but you still may get people to pull the flag.

I do not like putting with the flag in at all, and always pull it unless I am off the green using the flat stick, or have an extremely quick downhiller. Not complaining now though, as I will take what I can get.

That works. I am not sure what Frank did not get about my query.

No touching of the pin is allowed. Also no bunker rakes which will be interesting as more people are allowed to play.

Probably should just go with bad weather rules. Remove from bunker without penalty but not closer to hole or whatever. Then all the footprints do not matter.

Yeah you almost have to take a drop from a bunker, unless its early morning and nobody has really hit out of them yet.

You can take your golf shoes and smooth it over pretty easily for a decent lie and then just place it back in the bunker.
