The more I read about this years draft the more I hear about Tackle and WR being the 2 deepest positions this year. Those are both needs of the Bears. They should take the best tackle and best WR on the board in the 2nd round.

If Austin Jackson or Josh Jones are still there in second round it would be tempting to try to move up. They almost have to draft an OT at some point because there is currently no depth on the roster at that position.

When you listen to Chris Simms or Pat McAfee talk about NFL locker room culture and how the most respected guys aren't who you'd think, McManis always comes to mind. He was here for Lovie then Trestman and the last year of Nagy. I wont be shocked if he's around for the new guy next year.

This is basically how I feel too. Two obvious needs. Do they still need a safety and edge? Yes. Desperately, but they aren't going to fix everything.

Who is the replacement for Amukamara? This roster is pretty shitty.

Sounds like Toliver and the CFL kid will get the first crack at it.

I'm fine with Roberson and Toliver battling it out. Its a salary cap league, just a reality.

I dont think Toliver has great odds to make the roster now that McManis is back in the fold. Will depend whether Roberson lives up to the hype in camp.

Toliver has good size, looks to have some ball skills, but lacks top end speed, played OK last year, likely his job to lose. Veteran QB's will likely test whoever is opposite Fuller early and often next year, just have to hope pass rush is improved. It does look like there could be a pretty good safety prospect slip down into second round, but with more glaring needs elsewhere they might not be able to go that route.

Not sure when mods will start official draft topic, but warming up to using one of the second round picks to trade down and pick up another pick, too many needs and too few picks. However, this will likely be one of the busiest UFA years ever, hearing teams will likely only be spending draft picks on guys that were at the combine due to limited availability to conduct Pro days with the small school guys.

you're giving Pace way too much credit. He's not smart enough to trade down for more picks.

There are at least five veteran safeties who have been cut who would fill the Bears needs. All would be acceptable and the glut means they will come cheap. I don't expect to see movement until after the draft. However, there will be other guys cut post draft as well.

Pace tends to go chalk with his picks. The only time he did anything totally goofy was the Shaheen pick, I doubt he'll do that again.

He is going to trade next years first to move up to end of first this year.

obviously I haven't seen Roberson play but at least 1/3 of the NFL was fighting for his services and he received a huge contract for a canadian league cross over (not huge relative to the rest of the NFL).

I think he is the guy they like for that position.

I also think Stephen Denmark is going to make a jump onto the regular roster this year, although you obviously can't give him the position.

A smart GM would be watching for a team with a glaring need that is willing to give up draft capital to move up to reach for a guy, could be possible to trade down to later in second and maybe pick up a 3 or 4? However, with Pace being in win now or else mode he is likely to be the guy getting fleeced again rather than doing the best thing for the franchise long term.

He will try and have a draft like 2018 where he gained three starters.

The way things are shaping up at legitimate draft sites, not the draft machines you and I use with great players magically falling, I think they will get two starting level players at a possible three positions (OG, CB, WR). I think they will find a future OT who starts at OG next year.

Maybe he can gain three as there are some guys who play SS who will fall because the devaluation of the position.

I really believe this is a draft he should not overthink. Let the talent at strong positions fall to you in the second and grab them. No need to be fancy.

He cannot be allowed to trade future assets. I'm all for giving the guy every chance with regards to the salary cap to put together a winner this year, but fact is this team sucks and will almost certainly need to be rebuilt. Having Pace strip the picks the Bears will need to rebuild in some doomed attempt to win eight games instead of six will set us back even further.

I maybe would've been more receptive to the idea of "going for it" in this draft had free agency not been so disastrous.

The 2nd round is the sweet spot...I think they should stay and rebuild the offensive line. Some really good players are going to be there.

670 The Score) The Bears will sign offensive tackle Jason Spriggs to a one-year deal, ESPN reported Friday.
Spriggs, 25, was a second-round pick of the Packers in 2016. He started nine games over his first three seasons in Green Bay but spent all of 2019 on injured reserve with elbow and back problems.

Loved Spriggs coming out of school and I remember the Bears being linked to him big time back in 2016. Injuries have really crushed him but he does play when healthy.

Its an intriguing signing, I certainly would rather see him starting at LT than Leno Jr.

Bears save $2.8M by cutting him.
