I think they're going quarterback early. Maybe at 2.43, maybe even higher than that. They've got their eyes on someone.

If you think they are going QB early you are going to be very disappointed

Doc and GD are allowing Covid-19 to keep them from focusing on their jobs.

I'm just taking a few different developments as sign of a broader move:

1) They bring in two really talented linemen with monster potential who just never worked out on their rookie deals. Longshots? Definitely, but crucially they are cheap. I'd rather have a second round tackle than either of them, but they have two picks so whatever they draft is coming at the expense of something else. Like it or not, they have softened their need at tackle. Now does this have immense potential to go totally haywire and result in utter catastrophe? Of course, it puts the season at existential risk. But, there's a chance...

2) (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky is as good as gone. Kyle Long's word is good enough for me. Guy is less than six months separated from being a part of that organisation, he knows what's up. But see why would the Bears totally cut bait on (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky? They still need a backup if Foles goes down and there's not a tremendous amount of free agents left who will be a cost fit.

3) Foles restructure. I do not understand it, why? Why put him on essentially a one-year deal like that? Especially if Mitch is as good as gone. What if the guy breaks out and goes stud-crazy? Would the Bears really want to send him off to free agency right away? Without any heir waiting in the wings...

well

who says there's no heir waiting in the wings?

I suspect there's going to be a big trade-up. Jordan Love? Hurts? Herbert? ...TUA?

I think you are crazy.

1. The guy from Seattle was called the Gabe Carimi of the Seahawks. Spriggs has been injured. Not sure how they have "monster" potential.

2. So you think Kyle Long has inside knowledge? Yeah gonna pass on that too.

3. They restructured the deal because they have cap issues. I don't think there is some big play behind it.

The question is not how the Bears move up into the first round, its how they move into the first round without giving up both the second rounders.

I am against trading future picks, but for a quarterback? That intrigues me, and I think Bears brass could feel the same way and greenlight Pace.

The guy from Seattle never missed a game. From what I've read is that his biggest issue was penalties. When he wasn't holding or committing false starts, he was solid. Unfortunately, he was leading or near the top in penalties every year. That's not Gabe Carimi like.

The Bears would have to trade (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky in order for it to make sense for them to draft a QB early.

Right, Ifedi had major penalty issues. But I dont know if he was as soft or spent as much time getting blown the fuck off the ball like Carimi. It feels like it was more of case of the game being too fast for him, or him feeling overmatched by NFL-caliber edge players.

Kyle Long knows people in that organisation. He also is a fan of (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky personally so I dont see why he'd make that up.

They could have alleviated the cap issues and extended their commitment to Foles more than one year. There is some hint of deliberation in all of this, the restructure took about a week to hammer out and get announced after the trade. Why? Something's up here.

What is considered a good score?

I'd be scared to draft a quarterback with less than a twenty. Though someone will be in here shortly to remind us of Lamar Jackson (but I'm not a believer in him, either).

If its over twenty though, I dont worry. They just need to be capable of using their brains.

Holy shit Nate Stanley got a 40? I have been super high on him for a few years but he gets absolutely no love at all. I followed him closely because UW has had a pile of shit at the qb position for years while this guy, who is from southeast WI, doesnt get an offer and goes to Iowa and plays extremely well. Whatever team gets him is going to be extremely happy a few years down the road. I get a Brady vibe from him.

As long as you pair em with Belichick I'm not sure it matters that much.

I am not talking a Brady at the end of his career vibe but Brady when he was drafted. Neither blow you away with speed, arm strength, athleticism but they both are under the radar, from solid college football programs, both are winners, both are cerebral and both just make the damn plays. Stanley is in that mold, it just depends who takes him and what they do with him.

6th round

He has the size and intelligence, I would kick the tires in the 5th.

Brady was drafted twenty years ago now. For twenty years teams have gone Brady-hunting late in the draft and its not once worked. All the elite QB's of the last twenty years? The latest any of them were drafted is Russell Wilson. Fact is teams have wised up, scouting now compared to scouting in 2000? Its an entirely different world.

If you want a quarterback your odds are significantly better for success the earlier they are drafted. You can try for one-hundred years drafting guys in the fifth round and odds are you'll never find one worth a damn.

I think Herbert is special. There isn't a throw he cannot make. The accuracy and the arm strength is all there.

If the Bears want to push all their chips in and draft him, I'm on board with it.

 you started a thread saying he was one of our best OTs and they would experience immediate improvement by putting him in at OT in place of Leno or massie

You are just throwing shit at the wall to see what sticks
