I dont know why Detroit isn't just staying put and taking Herbert, but I'm glad they aren't.

Its going to be interesting to see what kind of career Derrick Brown has. I keep seeing these crazy comps like Suh, Cox, and Sapp (McShay). I just don't see it. He doesn't have the quickness of those guys. If his strength translates to the NFL I think the high end comp would be Haynesworth.

I don't know what his pass rushing will be. He is elite as a run stopper.

ESPN should edit these old draft shows. Their guy Kiper comes across as an even bigger buffoon in retrospect.

A big reason I tihnk people think these mock drafts are so wrong is because there are daily mock draft updates from countless sites and a lot of its just preposterous nonsense devised to get clicks. My guess is guys like Mike Miller or Todd McShay who are real pros and have been at this a while are going to do about as well as they usually do in a normal year predicting the draft.

How hard is it to set up a fantasy draft with the names of the people in the draft, make it for all the teams in the league and set the draft order? Shouldn’t really be any glitches.

Oh there would a ton of chicanery and eavesdropping on that kind of thing if it were done so blithely. The NFL is savage, these teams are all out trying to fuck each other all the time.

Elway said it went smoothly after they fixed whatever issue the Bengals were having. Brown was probably trying to log in thru a Compuserve account or something...

He said he thought trades would be difficult to pull off though.

It will be really interesting to see the results of this draft three years out compared to other recent drafts. It may alter the money spent on scouting and projection analytics forever.

Why will trades be more difficult to pull off?

Will they pipe in the boos every time Goodell has to speak during this draft?

Communication issues I imagine.

The Athletic did their beat writer mock draft. The Miami guy took Tua at 5 and said if they're concerned with injury they can just take another QB with their next 1st round pick...

Normally a GM is calling a GM at a table with the owner, head coach, position coaches, and personnel people. Now that GM is alone at his house. Maybe there are 2 or 3 other teams trying to work a deal. There's 10 minutes between picks in the 1st round.

yeah that is a good point. I guess it is more than just a phone call to another team.

That's how Arizona does it:

Browns have burnt 4 1st rounders on QB over the last decade. One of them might still be in the league. At some point if you're Cleveland's GM, you should maybe go Costanza and take anyone not on your front-office's board.

Have you seen the draft day setups some of the GM's have posted? Most had desks with 2-3 laptops with 3-4 additional screens ready to go. The Giants guy had a desk with 1 laptop, a binder the size of a suitcase, and a bottle of hand lotion. He might be in trouble.

So what happens with all these picks when there isn't a season?

Yeah that guy was talking about taking Tua at #5 and then another QB at #18 in the same draft!

I believe Jonah Hill is working for the Browns...or at least the guy he played in Moneyball.

I'd be lying if I said that video didn't shake my confidence in Herbert.

I understand the advisory.

If I'm an owner paying my GM several million, a head coach several million and position coaches a million, I'm demanding they all tough it out and get in a room together.

I'm sure they would if they could but it would be a PR nightmare. Have you seen Florio? Its like he started up Turd Watch again for players violating the lockdown. The lockdown shamers are going to be running things for awhile I'm afraid.

If I were an owner paying a head coach and general manager the type of money they get paid I'd want them, the scouting director and director of pro-personnel to co-habitate in these times. I'd rent them a fucking mega-yacht or palatial mansion so its as nice as possible. Bring the whole family, make it a compound. There is no literally no amount of money I wouldn't spend to give my football team the best chance possible.
